The Shepherd of Hermas 39

Visions and Mandates

Beware lest it be inconvenient to repudiate your own law. Because if you want to return to your city, you will certainly not be received.

2Because you repudiated the law of your city and will be expelled from it.

3Beware, therefore; dwelling in a foreign land, prepare for yourself nothing more than the necessary that is sufficient for you.

4And be ready so that, when the lord of this city wants to expel you for resisting his law, you may leave this city and go to your own city.
