Forgiveness
The weight forgiveness lifts
Forgiving isn't pretending it didn't hurt — it's handing the debt to God and walking out of the prison you built yourself.
Context
Jesus says this in the Sermon on the Mount, before Galilean peasants crushed by real debt and Roman taxes. "Forgiving a debt" was courtroom language, not feeling: cancelling what someone owed and could never repay.
Explanation
The text doesn't say God's forgiveness depends on yours; it says whoever received forgiveness and won't forgive hasn't grasped the size of their own debt. A heart closed to a brother is the same heart closed to grace.
Applying it today
Write the name of the one you haven't forgiven. Pray for them for seven days — not that they change, but that God takes from you the right to collect. Resentment charges interest only to whoever keeps it.

Prayer
Lord, I cannot forgive on my own. Take from me the debt I insist on collecting, and remind me daily how much I have been forgiven. Amen.
