Faith as firmness and faithfulness — not as an opinion about something uncertain.
The root is the same as “amen”: what holds, what stands firm. Emunah is the faithfulness of the one who stays put, which is why the same term describes both human faith and God's faithfulness. The Greek pístis inherits that weight: in Hebrews 11 faith is not thinking something is true, it is acting supported by what is not yet seen.
