Apocrypha · Chapter 38 of 114

The Shepherd of Hermas 38

Visions and Mandates

Because the lord of this city will say: I do not want you to dwell in my city; go out of this city, because you do not use my laws.

2You, therefore, who have fields and dwellings and many other possessions, when you are expelled by him, what will you do with your field and house and all the other things you prepared for yourself?

3Because the lord of this country says to you justly: Either use my laws, or go out of my country.

4Therefore, what will you do, you who have a law in your own city? Because of your fields and other properties, will you entirely repudiate your own law and walk by the law of this city?
