Apocrypha · Chapter 13 of 16

Didache 13

Doctrine of the Apostles

But every true prophet who wishes to dwell among you is worthy of his support.

2Likewise a true teacher is worthy, like the laborer, of his support.

3Therefore, of the firstfruits of the products of the wine-press and the threshing-floor, of oxen and sheep, take and give to the prophets, for they are your high priests.

4But if you have no prophet, give to the poor.

5If you make dough, take the firstfruits and give according to the commandment. Likewise, when you open a jar of wine or oil, take the firstfruits and give to the prophets.

6And of money, clothing and every possession, take the firstfruits, as seems good to you, and give according to the commandment.

About Didache

A handbook of the Christian community from the end of the 1st century: the two ways, how to baptise, how to pray, how to celebrate the eucharist and how to spot a prophet who is in it for himself.
