The Shepherd of Hermas 23

Visions and Mandates

COMMANDMENTS: After I prayed at home and sat on the bed, a man of glorious appearance entered, dressed like a shepherd.

2With a white goat skin around him, a bag on his shoulders and a staff in his hand. He greeted me and I greeted him.

3Immediately he sat beside me and said: I was sent by the most holy angel to dwell with you the remaining days of your life.

4I thought he came to tempt me, and I said: But who are you? For I know the one to whom I was delivered. He said: Do you not recognize me? I said: No.
