But the holy and faithful mother was not moved by any of these things.
2Because of the fear of God, she despised the temporary preservation of her children.
3Even more: because of the virtue and goodness of her children and their obedience to the law, her affection for them was much greater.
4For they were just, and temperate, and courageous, and magnanimous, and loved their brothers and their mother.
5So that they obeyed her even unto death keeping the divine ordinances.
6But, still, although so many factors influenced the mother to suffer along with them out of natural affection.
7In none of them were the tortures strong enough to pervert her reason.
8Each son separately, and all together, the mother encouraged them to die rather than transgress the commandment of God.
9Knowing well that those who die for God live for God, as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and all the patriarchs.
10They also will live for God, just as these holy ones now live in his divine presence.
