Chokmah

Wisdom as practical skill — the same word used of the craftsman who knows the trade.

Chokmah describes the embroiderer of the tabernacle before it describes the philosopher: it is knowing how to do the right thing well. In Proverbs she is personified as a woman shouting in the square, available to anyone who stops to listen, in direct contrast to “Folly”. The “fear of the Lord” as the beginning of wisdom is, in this logic, knowing who you are dealing with before starting the work.
