Hagiography

John the Baptist, son of Zechariah and Elisabeth.

2He was of the tribe of Levi.

3He made known to us the Lamb of God, the Son of the Father, who takes away the sin of the world.

4He became for us an entrance to the kingdom of God.

5For among those born of women there is none greater than John the Baptist.

6And he died, beheaded by Herod, on account of Herodias, the wife of Philip his brother.

7And there were other prophets also, whose names are inscribed in their genealogies, in the book of the names of Israel, of whom we have not made mention.
