Apocrypha · Chapter 26 of 114

The Shepherd of Hermas 26

Visions and Mandates

SECOND COMMANDMENT: He said to me: Have simplicity and be innocent, and you will be like little children who do not know the wickedness that destroys the life of men.

2First, speak evil of no one, nor listen with pleasure to anyone who speaks evil. Otherwise, you who listen will also be responsible for the sin of the one who speaks evil.

3For believing the slander, you also will take part against your brother. Thus you will be responsible for the sin of the one who speaks evil.

4Slander is evil; it is a restless demon, never at peace, but always among divisions. Abstain from it, therefore.
