Apocrypha · Chapter 1 of 3

Gospel of the Hebrews 1

Jewish Tradition

This is the Gospel of the Hebrews, the special delight of those among the Hebrews who accepted the Messiah.

2This is the gospel that the Nazarenes use, widely diffused among the Jews.

3It is called 'according to the Hebrews' by Jerome.

4When the Lord came up from the water, the whole fountain of the Holy Spirit descended and rested upon him.

5The Spirit said: 'My Son, in all the prophets I was waiting for you, that you might come and I might rest in you.'

6'For you are my rest; you are my firstborn Son who reigns forever.'

7And there was a great light in that place.
