2Because of the sudden and repeated calamities and adversities that have happened among us, brethren, we acknowledge that we have been somewhat slow in giving attention to the controversies that have arisen among you.
3Beloved, the base and impious sedition, strange and alien to the elect of God, which a few rash and presumptuous persons have kindled to such a degree of madness that your venerable and illustrious name, worthy to be loved by all men, has been greatly blasphemed.
