EIGHTH COMMANDMENT: I told you, he said, that the creatures of God are double; for abstinence is also double. Because in some things it is necessary to abstain, and in others not.
2Make known to me, I said, lord, in which things I must abstain, and in which not.
3Listen, he said: Abstain from evil and do not do it; but from good do not abstain, but do it. Because if you abstain from doing good, you commit great sin.
4Because everyone who is in need and suffers afflictions in his daily life is in great torment and need. He, therefore, who does not succor such a man from torments commits great sin.
