It was then midday and darkness took hold of Judea.
2They were then seized with agitation, fearing that the sun would set, for Jesus was still alive and the law said that 'the sun should not set upon one that has been put to death.'
3One of them said: 'Give him gall with vinegar to drink.' Making the mixture, they gave him the drink.
4And they fulfilled everything, filling up the measure of iniquities heaped upon their heads.
5Many walked about using lanterns, since they thought it was night, and fell to the ground.
6The Lord lifted up his voice saying: 'My power, my power, you have forsaken me.' Saying this, he was taken up.
7At that very moment, the veil of the temple of Jerusalem was rent in two.
