Apocrypha · Chapter 7 of 16

Didache 7

Doctrine of the Apostles

Concerning baptism, baptize thus: Having first recited all these things, baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, in running water.

2But if you have no running water, baptize in other water; and if you cannot in cold, do it in warm.

3And if you have neither, pour water three times on the head, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

4But before the baptism, let the baptizer and the one being baptized fast, and any others who can; and instruct the one being baptized to fast one or two days before.

About Didache

A handbook of the Christian community from the end of the 1st century: the two ways, how to baptise, how to pray, how to celebrate the eucharist and how to spot a prophet who is in it for himself.
