And, having left the grotto, the midwife came to meet Salome. 'Salome, Salome,' she exclaimed, 'I have to tell you a marvel never seen, and it is that a virgin has given birth; something that, as you know, human nature does not allow.' But Salome replied: 'By the Lord, my God, I will not believe in such a thing, unless I am allowed to touch with my fingers and examine her nature.'
2And she bent her knees before the Lord, saying: 'O God of our fathers! Remember me because I am a descendant of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, do not make of me an example for the children of Israel.'
3And an angel from heaven appeared, saying to her: 'Salome, Salome, God has heard you. Bring your hand close to the child, take him, and there will be for you joy and pleasure.'
4And Salome approached and took him, saying: 'I will worship you because you were born to be the great King of Israel.' Then, suddenly, she felt herself healed and left the grotto in peace.
