Protoevangelho de Tiago 20

1E, havendo saído a parteira da gruta, veio a seu encontro Salomé. 'Salomé, Salomé, exclamou, tenho de te contar uma maravilha nunca vista, e é que uma virgem deu à luz; coisa que, como sabes, não permite a natureza humana.' Mas Salomé replicou: 'Pelo Senhor, meu Deus, não acreditarei em tal coisa, se não me for dado tocar com os dedos e examinar sua natureza.'

1And, having left the grotto, the midwife came to meet Salome. 'Salome, Salome,' she exclaimed, 'I have to tell you a marvel never seen, and it is that a virgin has given birth; something that, as you know, human nature does not allow.' But Salome replied: 'By the Lord, my God, I will not believe in such a thing, unless I am allowed to touch with my fingers and examine her nature.'

2E dobrou os joelhos diante do Senhor, dizendo: 'Oh Deus de nossos pais! Lembra-te de mim porque sou descendente de Abraão, Isaac e Jacó, não faças de mim um exemplo para os filhos de Israel.'

2And she bent her knees before the Lord, saying: 'O God of our fathers! Remember me because I am a descendant of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, do not make of me an example for the children of Israel.'

3E apareceu um anjo do céu, dizendo-lhe: 'Salomé, Salomé, Deus escutou-te. Aproxima tua mão do menino, toma-o, e haverá para ti alegria e prazer.'

3And an angel from heaven appeared, saying to her: 'Salome, Salome, God has heard you. Bring your hand close to the child, take him, and there will be for you joy and pleasure.'

4E acercou-se Salomé e o tomou, dizendo: 'Adorar-te-ei porque nasceste para ser o grande Rei de Israel.' Então, de repente, sentiu-se curada e saiu em paz da gruta.

4And Salome approached and took him, saying: 'I will worship you because you were born to be the great King of Israel.' Then, suddenly, she felt herself healed and left the grotto in peace.
