The Shepherd of Hermas 63

Visions and Mandates

This shepherd received the sheep from that young shepherd, those who were in delight and leaping, but were not corrupt; and he cast them into a steep place, full of thorns and thistles, so that the sheep could not disentangle themselves from the thorns and thistles, but became entangled in them.

2And so they were feeding among the thorns and thistles, and were in great misery, being whipped by him; and he drove them from one side to the other, and gave them no rest; and by no means were those sheep comfortable.
