Apocrypha · Chapter 5 of 114

The Shepherd of Hermas 5

Visions and Mandates

She said to me: Why are you sad, Hermas, you who were patient and moderate, always smiling?

2Why are you so downcast and not joyful? I answered: Because of an excellent lady who tells me that I sinned against her.

3She said: By no means let this thing happen to the servant of God! But certainly the desire regarding her arose in your heart.

4It is for the servants of God that such a purpose brings sin. Because it is an evil and terrible purpose for an already approved and righteous spirit to desire an evil deed.
