Apocrypha · Chapter 2 of 4

Nativity of Mary 2

Birth of the Virgin

Anna answered: 'As the Lord my God lives! If I come to have any fruit, I will take it as an offering to the Lord.'

2Messengers came: 'Joachim is on his way back, for an angel of God told him that Anna will conceive.'

3When Joachim arrived, Anna threw herself on his neck saying: 'Now I see that God has blessed me!'

4Anna's time was fulfilled and in the ninth month she gave birth to a girl.

5Anna named her Mary. Day by day the girl grew stronger.

6Anna did not allow anything common or impure to pass through her hands.

7She called Hebrew maidens, all virgins, to entertain her.
