Twelve Patriarchs 5

Patriarkhai

TESTAMENT OF ISSACHAR - Copy of the words of Issachar, which he spoke to his sons.

2Hear, children, the words of Issachar, your father.

3I was born the fifth son of Jacob, as a reward for the mandrakes.

4For Rachel gave mandrakes to Leah in exchange for sleeping with our father.

5Therefore I was called Issachar, which means 'there is a reward'.

6I was a simple man and worked the land without coveting riches.

7I walked in the uprightness of my heart and became a farmer for my parents and brothers.

8I gathered the fruits in their proper time and brought them to my father Jacob.

9And he blessed me, for he saw that I walked in simplicity.

10I was not meddlesome in my deeds, nor malicious or envious.
