Life of Adam and Eve
And they walked upon the earth and found a river.
2And Adam said to Eve: Let us do penance for our sins.
3Perhaps God will forgive us and give us food.
4Eve said: What penance shall I do?
5Adam said: You shall enter the river Tigris and stand in the water up to your neck.
6And I shall enter the river Jordan and do the same.
7And we shall remain so for forty days, in silence and prayer.
8Perhaps the Lord will have mercy on us.
