Septuagint

The Greek translation of the Old Testament made in Alexandria.

According to the Letter of Aristeas, seventy-two Jewish scholars produced it in Egypt in the third century BC. It was the Bible of the Greek-speaking diaspora and the version most quoted by the authors of the New Testament — which explains differences between New Testament quotations and the Hebrew Masoretic text.
