LUX VERITAS

Dictionary entry

רוּחַ

Ruach

rûaḥ

Breath, wind, spirit — all three at once.

In Hebrew there is no separating the wind that blows from the breath that animates and from the Spirit of God: it is all ruach. In Genesis 1:2, the ruach of God hovers over the waters; in Ezekiel 37, it is the ruach that returns life to the dry bones. The noun is feminine.
