Messiah
mashiaḥ
“Anointed one” — the same word that, in Greek, became Christ.
Kings, priests and prophets were anointed with oil to take up a sacred office. In time, the term came to designate the awaited deliverer from the line of David. Christós is the exact Greek translation of the word.
