LUX VERITAS

Dictionary entry

Dead Sea Scrolls

The library of Qumran, hidden in caves for two thousand years.

Found from 1947 onwards near the Dead Sea, they contain copies of almost every book of the Hebrew Bible a thousand years older than any known until then, along with texts of the Essene community and fragments of Enoch and Jubilees — proof that these books were read as Scripture by part of ancient Judaism.
