Apocrypha

Protoevangelium of James 12

1And, having finished her work with the purple and the scarlet, she took it to the priest. He blessed her saying: 'Mary, the Lord has exalted your name and you shall be blessed among all the generations of the earth.'

2Full of joy, Mary went to the house of her kinswoman Elizabeth. She called to her from the door and when Elizabeth heard her, she dropped the scarlet, ran to the door, opened it and, upon seeing Mary, praised her saying: 'What have I done that the mother of my Lord should come to my house? For know that the fruit I carry in my womb began to leap within me, as if to bless you.'

3And she spent three months at Elizabeth's house. And day after day her womb increased and, full of fear, she set out for home and hid from the children of Israel. When these things happened, she was sixteen years old.
