For he gave us the light, as a father he called us children, he saved us when we were perishing.
What praise shall we give him? Or what payment of recompense for what we have received?
We who were crippled in our understanding, worshiping stones and wood, gold and silver and bronze, works of men.
And all our life was nothing but death.
Wrapped in darkness and with such mist before our eyes, we recovered our sight.
By his will he removed the cloud that covered us.
For he had pity on us and saved us with mercy.
For he saw in us much error and destruction, and we had no hope of salvation, except from him.
