1Chapter.

2E no sexto dia entraram em Belém, onde passaram o sétimo dia.

2And on the sixth day they entered Bethlehem, where they spent the seventh day.

3E no oitavo dia circuncidaram o menino e chamaram-lhe o nome de Jesus; pois assim Ele foi chamado pelo anjo antes de ser concebido no ventre.

3And on the eighth day they circumcised the child, and called His name Jesus; for so He was called by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

4Agora, depois de cumpridos os dias da purificação de Maria segundo a lei de Moisés, José levou o menino ao templo do Senhor.

4Now, after the days of the purification of Mary were fulfilled according to the law of Moses, then Joseph took the infant to the temple of the Lord.

5E quando a criança recebeu parhithomus, - parhithomus, isto é, circuncisão - ofereceram-lhe um par de rolas, ou dois pombinhos.

5And when the infant had received parhithomus,—parhithomus, that is, circumcision—they offered for Him a pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.

6Ora, estava no templo um homem de Deus, perfeito e justo, cujo nome era Simeão, de cento e doze anos de idade.

6Now there was in the temple a man of God, perfect and just, whose name was Symeon, a hundred and twelve years old.

7Ele recebeu a resposta do Senhor de que não provaria a morte até que visse Cristo, o Filho de Deus, vivendo na carne.

7He had received the answer from the Lord, that he should not taste of death till he had seen Christ, the Son of God, living in the flesh.

8E, vendo o menino, gritou em alta voz, dizendo: Deus visitou o seu povo, e o Senhor cumpriu a sua promessa.

8And having seen the child, he cried out with a loud voice, saying: God hath visited His people, and the Lord hath fulfilled His promise.

9E ele se apressou e o adorou.

9And he made haste, and adored Him.

10E depois disso ele o colocou em sua capa e beijou Seus pés, e disse: Senhor, agora deixa Teu servo partir em paz, de acordo com Tua palavra: pois meus olhos viram Tua salvação, que Tu preparaste diante da face de todos os povos, para ser uma luz para iluminar os gentios, e a glória do Teu povo Israel.

10And after this he took Him up into his cloak and kissed His feet, and said: Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word: for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples, to be a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of Thy people Israel.

11Estava também no templo do Senhor Ana, uma profetisa, filha de Fanuel, da tribo de Aser, que vivia com o marido sete anos desde a sua virgindade; e ela já estava viúva há oitenta e quatro anos.

11There was also in the temple of the Lord, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, who had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity; and she had now been a widow eighty-four years.

12E ela nunca saiu do templo do Senhor, mas passou seu tempo em jejum e oração.

12And she never left the temple of the Lord, but spent her time in fasting and prayer.

13Ela também adorou a criança, dizendo: Nele está a redenção do mundo.

13She also likewise adored the child, saying: In Him is the redemption of the world.
