1Capítulo 5 — Os deveres dos diáconos, dos jovens e das virgens.

1Chapter 5 — The duties of deacons, youths, and virgins.

2Sabendo, então, que “de Deus não se zomba”, devemos andar dignos de Seu mandamento e glória.

2Knowing, then, that "God is not mocked," we ought to walk worthy of His commandment and glory.

3Da mesma forma, os diáconos deveriam ser irrepreensíveis diante da Sua justiça, como servos de Deus e de Cristo, e não dos homens.

3In like manner should the deacons be blameless before the face of His righteousness, as being the servants of God and Christ, and not of men.

4Não devem ser caluniadores, de língua dúbia ou amantes do dinheiro, mas temperantes em todas as coisas, compassivos, trabalhadores, andando segundo a verdade do Senhor, que foi o servo de todos.

4They must not be slanderers, double-tongued, or lovers of money, but temperate in all things, compassionate, industrious, walking according to the truth of the Lord, who was the servant of all.

5Se Lhe agradarmos neste mundo presente, receberemos também o mundo futuro, de acordo com Ele nos prometeu que nos ressuscitará dentre os mortos, e que se vivermos dignamente Dele, “também reinaremos juntamente com Ele”, desde que apenas acreditemos.

5If we please Him in this present world, we shall receive also the future world, according as He has promised to us that He will raise us again from the dead, and that if we live worthily of Him, "we shall also reign together with Him," provided only we believe.

6Da mesma forma, que os jovens também sejam irrepreensíveis em todas as coisas, tendo especial cuidado em preservar a pureza e mantendo-se protegidos, como se fossem um freio, de todo tipo de mal.

6In like manner, let the young men also be blameless in all things, being especially careful to preserve purity, and keeping themselves in, as with a bridle, from every kind of evil.

7Pois é bom que eles sejam afastados das concupiscências que existem no mundo, visto que "toda concupiscência guerreia contra o espírito"; e "nem os fornicadores, nem os efeminados, nem os abusadores de si mesmos com a humanidade, herdarão o reino de Deus", nem aqueles que fazem coisas inconsistentes e impróprias.

7For it is well that they should be cut off from the lusts that are in the world, since "every lust warreth against the spirit;" and "neither fornicators, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, shall inherit the kingdom of God," nor those who do things inconsistent and unbecoming.

8Portanto, é necessário abster-se de todas estas coisas, estando sujeito aos presbíteros e diáconos, como a Deus e a Cristo.

8Wherefore, it is needful to abstain from all these things, being subject to the presbyters and deacons, as unto God and Christ.

9As virgens também devem andar numa consciência pura e irrepreensível.

9The virgins also must walk in a blameless and pure conscience.
