2Ouvi quão verdadeiras são as coisas que estou prestes,

2Hear how much, all too true, I am about,

3Através de uma voz de múltiplos tons, desde o meu grande recinto,

3Through a month many-toned, from my great hall

4A profetizar; nenhum oráculo sou eu

4To prophesy; no oracle am I

5Do mentiroso Febo, a quem homens vãos chamaram deus,

5Of lying Phoebus whom vain men called god,

6E ainda mais falsificaram chamando-o vidente;

6And further falsified by calling seer;

7Mas do Deus poderoso, a quem mãos de homens

7But of the mighty God, whom hands of men

8Não formaram como ídolos mudos esculpidos em pedra.

8Formed not like speechless idols carved of stone.

9Pois ele não tem por morada uma pedra

22Com verdade aos homens que coisas agora sucederam

22Truly to men what things have now befallen

37Eles os rejeitarão a todos; e olharão

38Para a excelsa glória de um só Deus, e não

38To the great glory of one God and not

39Cometerão homicídio presunçoso nem comerciarão

39Commit presumptuous murder nor dispose

40Com ganhos de furto, coisas que são sobremodo horríveis;

40Of stolen gain, which things most horrid are;

41Nem vergonhosa cobiça pelo leito alheio

41Nor shameful longing for another's bed

42Terão eles, nem vil e detestável torpeza com varões.

42Have they, nor vile and hateful lust of males.

43O seu procedimento, piedade e caráter,

43Their manner, piety, and character

44Os outros homens, que amam uma vida impudente,

44Shall other men, that love a shameless life,

45Jamais imitarão; porém, escarnecendo deles

45Not ever imitate; but, mocking them

46Com chufas e zombarias como crianças insensatas,

46With jest and joke like babes in senselessness,

47Imputar-lhes-ão falsamente tantas obras

47They'll falsely charge to them as many deeds

48Censuráveis e perversas quantas eles próprios cometem.

49Pois tardia é toda a raça do gênero humano

51E dos mortais vier, o qual o próprio Deus trará,

52Julgando a um só tempo os ímpios e os piedosos,

53Então, na verdade, enviará os ímpios de volta

53Then indeed shall he send the ungodly back

54Às trevas inferiores, e então saberão eles

54To lower darkness [and then they shall know

55Quanta impiedade praticaram; mas os piedosos

55How much impiety they wrought]; but the pious

56Permanecerão sobre a terra frutífera,

56Shall still remain upon the fruitful land,

57Dando-lhes Deus fôlego, vida e graça.

58Porém todas estas coisas na décima geração

59Hão de cumprir-se; e agora as coisas que serão

60Desde a primeira geração, essas declararei.

61Primeiramente sobre todos os mortais governarão os assírios,

61First over all mortal shall Assyrians rule,

62E por seis gerações reterão o domínio

62And for six generations hold the power

63Do mundo, desde o tempo em que o Deus do céu,

63Of the world, from the time the God of heaven

64Estando irado contra as cidades e todos os homens,

65Cobriu a terra com o mar em impetuoso dilúvio.

66A estes os medos subjugarão, mas no trono

155Um poderoso rei, à semelhança de escravo fugitivo,

156Fugirá sobre as correntes do Eufrates sem ser visto,

157Desconhecido, o qual em algum tempo ousará abominável culpa

157Unknown, who shall some time dare loathsome guilt

158De matricídio, e muitas outras coisas,

161O solo de Roma enquanto ele foge pela terra dos partos.

162And out of Syria shall come Rome's foremost man,

163O qual, havendo incendiado o templo de Solima,

163Who having burned the temple of Solyma,

164E havendo degolado a muitos dos judeus,

164And having slaughtered many of the Jews,

165Lançará destruição sobre a sua grande e espaçosa terra.

165Shall destruction on their great broad land.

166E então também um terremoto derribará

166And then too shall an earthquake overthrow

167Tanto a Salamina como a Pafos, quando a água escura

167Both Salamis and Paphos, when dark water

168Arremeter sobre Chipre banhada de muitas ondas.

168Shall dash o'er Cyprus washed by many a wave.

169Mas quando da fenda profunda da terra italiana

169But when from deep cleft of Italian land

170Fogo faiscar no espaçoso céu,

170Fire shall come flashing forth in the broad heaven,

171E muitas cidades queimar e homens destruir,

171And many cities burn and men destroy,

172E muita cinza negra encher o vasto firmamento,

172And much black ashes shall fill the great sky,

173E pequenas gotas como terra vermelha caírem do céu,

173And small drops like red earth shall fall from heaven,

174Sabei então a ira do Deus do céu,

174Then know the anger of the God of heaven,

175Porque sem razão destruíram

175For that they without reason shall destroy

176A nação dos piedosos. E então a discórdia

176The nation of the pious. And then strife

177Despertada da guerra virá para o Ocidente,

177Awakened of war shall come to the West,

178Virá também o foragido de Roma,

178Shall also come the fugitive of Rome,

179Empunhando grande lança, havendo marchado através

179Bearing a great spear, having marched across

180Do Eufrates com as suas muitas miríades.

180Euphrates with his many myriads.

181Ó desventurada Antioquia, chamar-te-ão

181O wretched Antioch, they shall call thee

182Não mais cidade, quando ao redor das lanças deles,

182No more a city when around their spears

183Por causa de tuas próprias insensatezes, caíres.

183Because of thine own follies thou shalt fall.

184E então sobre Ciros virá uma peste

184And then on Scyros shall a pestilence

185E o terrível fragor da batalha trará destruição.

185And dreadful battle-din destruction bring.

186Ai, ai! Ó desventurada Chipre, a ti

188Arrojada nas alturas pelos ventos tempestuosos em turbilhão.

189E na Ásia entrarão grandes riquezas,

189And into Asia there shall come great wealth,

190Que a própria Roma outrora, pilhando, entesourou

190Which Rome herself once, plundering, put away

191Em suas faustosas moradas; e o dobro

192E ainda mais tornará ela a retribuir à Ásia,

193E então haverá um transbordamento de guerra.

193And then there shall be an excess of war.

194E cidades da Cária junto às águas do Meandro,

194And Carian cities by Maeander's waters,

195Cingidas de torres e sobremodo formosas,

195Girded with towers and very beautiful,

196Por amarga fome serão destruídas,

196Shall by a bitter famine be destroyed,

197Quando o Meandro ocultar a sua escura água.

197When the Maeander his dark water hides.

198Mas quando a piedade perecer dentre os homens,

198But when piety shall perish from mankind,

199E a fé e o direito ficarem ocultos no mundo,

199And faith and right be hidden in the world,

200Inconstantes e em ousadia profana

200. . . Fickle . . . and in unhallowed boldness

201Vivendo, praticarão desenfreada violência,

201Living shall practice wanton violence,

202E temerárias obras más, e dos piedosos

202And reckless evil deeds, and of the pious

203Ninguém fará caso, mas antes a todos eles,

203No one shall make account, but even them all

204Por leviandade, destruirão por completo,

204From thoughtlessness they utterly destroy

205Em infantil loucura, em sua violência

205In childish folly, in their violence

206Exultando e ensanguentando as suas mãos;

207Sabe tu então que Deus não mais será benigno,

207Then know thou that God is no longer mild,

208Mas rangendo com furor e destruindo toda

210Ah! Míseros mortais, mudai estas coisas,

211Nem leveis o Deus poderoso a ira extrema;

212Mas abandonando as vossas espadas e afiados punhais,

212But giving up your swords and pointed knives,

213E assassínios e desenfreada violência,

213And homicides and wanton violence,

214Lavai todo o vosso corpo em correntes perenes,

214Wash your whole body in perennial streams,

215E levantando as vossas mãos ao céu buscai perdão

215And lifting up your hands to heaven seek pardon

216Pelas obras passadas, e expiai com louvor

216For former deeds and expiate with praise

217A amarga impiedade; e Deus concederá

217Bitter impiety; and God will give

218Arrependimento; ele não vos destruirá; e a ira

218Repentance; he will not destroy; and wrath

219Ele outra vez conterá, se em vossos corações

219Will he again restrain, if in your hearts

220Todos vós praticardes a honrosa piedade.

220Ye all will practice honored piety.

221Mas se, mal-intencionados, não me derdes ouvidos,

221But if, ill-disposed, ye obey me not,

222Mas com apego a uma estranha falta de juízo

222But with a fondness for strange lack of sense

223Receberdes todas estas coisas com ouvido maligno,

223Receive all these things with an evil ear,

224Haverá sobre todo o mundo um fogo

224There shall be over all the world a fire

225E grandíssimo presságio com espada e com trombeta

225And greatest omen with sword and with trump

226Ao nascer do sol; o mundo inteiro ouvirá o bramido

226At sunrise; the whole world shall hear the roar

227E o poderoso sonido. E ele queimará toda a terra,

227And mighty sound. And he shall burn all earth,

228E destruirá toda a raça dos homens, e todas

228And destroy the whole race of men, and all

229As cidades, e os rios, e o mar;

229The cities and the rivers and the sea;

230Todas as coisas queimará, e tudo se tornará pó negro.

230All things he'll burn, and it shall be black dust.

231Mas quando agora todas as coisas tiverem sido reduzidas

231But when now all things shall have been reduced

232A pó e cinza, e Deus houver aplacado

232To dust and ashes, and God shall have calmed

233O fogo indizível que acendeu,

233The fire unspeakable which he lit up,

234Os ossos e as cinzas dos homens o próprio Deus

234The bones and ashes of men God himself

235De novo modelará, e ele outra vez

235Again will fashion, and he will again

236Ressuscitará os mortais, tal como eram dantes.

236Raise mortals up, even as they were before.

237E então será o juízo, no qual Deus

237And then shall be the judgment, at which God

238Mesmo como juiz julgará o mundo outra vez;

238Himself as judge shall judge the world again;

239E todos os que pecaram com corações ímpios, a esses mesmos

239And all who sinned with impious hearts, even them,

240Ele de novo ocultará debaixo de montões de terra,

240Shall he again hide under mounds of earth

241No escuro Tártaro e na Geena estígia.

241[Dark Tartarus and Stygian Gehenna].

242Mas todos quantos forem piedosos viverão

242But all who shall be pious shall again

243De novo sobre a terra, e herdarão ali

243Live on the earth [and (shall inherit there)

244O inesgotável bem-aventurado favor do grande Deus imortal,

244The great immortal God's unwasting bliss,]

245Dando-lhes Deus espírito, vida e alegria,

245God giving spirit life and joy to them

246Aos piedosos; e todos eles verão a si mesmos
