1Chapter 3 — Honour the deacons, etc.

2Da mesma maneira, todos reverenciem os diáconos como uma nomeação de Jesus Cristo, e o bispo como Jesus Cristo, que é o Filho do Pai, e os presbíteros como o sinédrio de Deus e a assembléia dos apóstolos.

2In like manner, let all reverence the deacons as an appointment of Jesus Christ, and the bishop as Jesus Christ, who is the Son of the Father, and the presbyters as the sanhedrim of God, and assembly of the apostles.

3Além destes, não há Igreja.

3Apart from these, there is no Church.

4Com relação a tudo isso, estou convencido de que vocês são da mesma opinião.

4Concerning all this, I am persuaded that ye are of the same opinion.

5Pois recebi a manifestação do seu amor, e ainda a tenho comigo, em seu bispo, cuja própria aparência é altamente instrutiva, e sua mansidão por si só é um poder; a quem imagino que até os ímpios devem reverenciar, visto que também ficam satisfeitos por eu não me poupar.

5For I have received the manifestation of your love, and still have it with me, in your bishop, whose very appearance is highly instructive, and his meekness of itself a power; whom I imagine even the ungodly must reverence, seeing they are also pleased that I do not spare myself.

6Mas será que eu, quando me for permitido escrever sobre este ponto, alcançarei tal altura de auto-estima que, embora sendo um homem condenado, eu deveria emitir ordens para você como se eu fosse um apóstolo? E vocês os reverenciam como Cristo Jesus, de cujo lugar eles são os guardiões, assim como o bispo é o representante do Pai de todas as coisas, e os presbíteros são o sinédrio de Deus e a assembléia dos apóstolos de Cristo.

6But shall I, when permitted to write on this point, reach such a height of self-esteem, that though being a condemned man, I should issue commands to you as if I were an apostle? And do ye reverence them as Christ Jesus, of whose place they are the keepers, even as the bishop is the representative of the Father of all things, and the presbyters are the sanhedrim of God, and assembly of the apostles of Christ.

7Fora destes não há Igreja eleita, nem congregação de santos, nem assembleia de santos.

7Apart from these there is no elect Church, no congregation of holy ones, no assembly of saints.

8Estou convencido de que você também é desta opinião.

8I am persuaded that ye also are of this opinion.

9Pois recebi a manifestação do seu amor, e ainda a tenho comigo, em seu bispo, cuja própria aparência é altamente instrutiva, e sua mansidão por si só é um poder; a quem imagino que até os ímpios devem reverenciar.

9For I have received the manifestation of your love, and still have it with me, in your bishop, whose very appearance is highly instructive, and his meekness of itself a power; whom I imagine even the ungodly must reverence.

10Amando você como amo, evito escrever-lhe com qualquer tensão mais severa, para que não pareça rude com ninguém ou carente de ternura.

10Loving you as I do, I avoid writing in any severer strain to you, that I may not seem harsh to any, or wanting in tenderness.

11Na verdade, estou obrigado por causa de Cristo, mas ainda não sou digno de Cristo.

11I am indeed bound for the sake of Christ, but I am not yet worthy of Christ.

12Mas quando eu for aperfeiçoado, talvez eu me torne assim.

12But when I am perfected, perhaps I shall then become so.

13Não dou ordens como um apóstolo.

13I do not issue orders like an apostle.
