Evangelho de Tomé 1

1Estes são os ensinamentos ocultos expostos por Jesus, o vivo, que Judas Tomé, o gêmeo, escreveu.

1These are the hidden teachings that Jesus the living one spoke, which Didymus Judas Thomas wrote down.

2E ele disse: 'Quem descobrir o significado interior destes ensinamentos não provará a morte.'

2And he said: 'Whoever finds the inner meaning of these teachings will not taste death.'

3Jesus disse: 'Aquele que busca continue buscando até encontrar. Quando encontrar, ele se perturbará. Ao se perturbar, ficará maravilhado e reinará sobre o Todo.'

3Jesus said: 'Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will be troubled. When he is troubled, he will be astonished, and he will reign over the All.'

4Jesus disse: 'Se aqueles que vos guiam disserem, Olhem, o reino está no céu, então, os pássaros do céu vos precederão, se vos disserem que está no mar, então, os peixes vos precederão. Pois bem, o reino está dentro de vós, e também está em vosso exterior. Quando conseguirdes conhecer a vós mesmos, então, sereis conhecidos e compreendereis que sois filhos do Pai vivo. Mas, se não vos conhecerdes, vivereis na pobreza e sereis essa.'

4Jesus said: 'If those who guide you say, Look, the kingdom is in heaven, then the birds of heaven will precede you. If they say to you that it is in the sea, then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is within you, and it is outside you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will be known and you will realize that you are the sons of the living Father. But if you do not know yourselves, you will dwell in poverty and you are that poverty.'

5Jesus disse: 'O homem idoso não hesitará em perguntar a uma criancinha de sete dias sobre o lugar da vida, e ele viverá. Pois muitos dos primeiros serão os últimos e se tornarão um só.'

5Jesus said: 'The aged man will not hesitate to ask a little child of seven days about the place of life, and he will live. For many of the first will be last, and they will become one.'

6Jesus disse: 'Reconheça o que está diante de teus olhos, e o que está oculto a ti será revelado. Pois não há nada oculto que não venha ser manifestado.'

6Jesus said: 'Recognize what is before your eyes, and what is hidden from you will be revealed to you. For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest.'

7Seus discípulos o interrogaram dizendo: 'Queres que jejuemos? Como devemos orar? Devemos dar esmolas? Que dieta devemos observar?' Jesus disse: 'Não mintais e não façais aquilo que detestais, pois todas as coisas são desveladas aos olhos do céu. Pois não há nada escondido que não se torne manifesto, e nada oculto que não seja desvelado.'

7His disciples questioned him saying: 'Do you want us to fast? How should we pray? Should we give alms? What diet should we observe?' Jesus said: 'Do not lie and do not do what you hate, for all things are revealed before heaven. For there is nothing hidden that will not become manifest, and nothing covered that will not be uncovered.'

8Jesus disse: 'Bem-aventurado o leão que se torna homem quando consumido pelo homem; maldito o homem que o leão consome, e o leão torna-se.'

8Jesus said: 'Blessed is the lion that becomes man when consumed by man; cursed is the man that the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man.'

9E ele disse: 'O homem é como pescador sábio que lança sua rede ao mar e a retira cheia de peixinhos. O pescador sábio encontra entre eles um peixe grande e excelente. Joga todos os peixinhos de volta ao mar e escolhe o peixe grande sem dificuldade. Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.'

9And he said: 'Man is like a wise fisherman who cast his net into the sea and pulled it up full of small fish. The wise fisherman found among them a large fine fish. He threw all the small fish back into the sea and chose the large fish without difficulty. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.'

10Jesus disse: 'Eis que o semeador saiu, encheu sua mão e semeou. Algumas sementes caíram na estrada; os pássaros vieram e as recolheram. Algumas caíram sobre rochas, não criaram raízes no solo e não produziram espigas. Outras caíram em meio a um espinheiro, que sufocou as sementes e os vermes as destruíram. E outras caíram em solo fértil e produziram bons frutos; renderam sessenta por uma e cento e vinte por uma.'

10Jesus said: 'Behold, the sower went out, filled his hand and sowed. Some seeds fell on the road; birds came and gathered them. Others fell on rock, did not take root in the soil and did not produce ears. Others fell among thorns, which choked the seeds and worms ate them. And others fell on good soil and produced good fruit; they yielded sixty per one and a hundred and twenty per one.'

11Jesus disse: 'Eu lancei fogo sobre o mundo, e eis que estou cuidando dele até que arda.'

11Jesus said: 'I have cast fire upon the world, and behold, I am guarding it until it blazes.'

12Jesus disse: 'Este céu passará, e aquele acima dele passará. Os mortos não estão vivos e os vivos não morrerão. Nos dias em que consumistes o que estava morto, vós o tornastes vivo. Quando estiverdes morando na luz, o que fareis? No dia em que éreis um vos tornastes dois. Mas quando vos tornardes dois, o que fareis?'

12Jesus said: 'This heaven will pass away, and the one above it will pass away. The dead are not alive and the living will not die. In the days when you consumed what was dead, you made it alive. When you dwell in the light, what will you do? On the day when you were one you became two. But when you become two, what will you do?'

13Os discípulos disseram a Jesus: 'Sabemos que tu nos deixarás. Quem será nosso líder?' Jesus disse-lhes: 'Não importa onde estiverdes, devereis dirigir-vos a Tiago, o justo, para quem o céu e a terra foram feitos.'

13The disciples said to Jesus: 'We know that you will leave us. Who will be our leader?' Jesus said to them: 'Wherever you are, you must go to James the just, for whom heaven and earth came into being.'

14Jesus disse a seus discípulos: 'Comparai-me com alguém e dizei-me com quem me assemelho.' Simão Pedro disse-lhe: 'Tu és semelhante a um anjo justo.' Mateus lhe disse: 'Tu te assemelhas a um filósofo sábio.' Tomé lhe disse: 'Mestre, minha boca é inteiramente incapaz de dizer com quem te assemelhas.' Jesus disse: 'Não sou teu Mestre. Porque bebeste na fonte borbulhante que fiz brotar, tornaste-te ébrio.' E, pegando-o, retirou-se e disse-lhe três coisas. Quando Tomé retornou a seus companheiros, eles lhe perguntaram: 'O que te disse Jesus?' Tomé respondeu: 'Se eu vos disser uma só das coisas que ele me disse, apanhareis pedras e as atirareis em mim, e um fogo brotará das pedras e vos queimará.'

14Jesus said to his disciples: 'Compare me to someone and tell me whom I am like.' Simon Peter said to him: 'You are like a just angel.' Matthew said to him: 'You are like a wise philosopher.' Thomas said to him: 'Master, my mouth is wholly incapable of saying whom you are like.' Jesus said: 'I am not your master. Because you have drunk, you have become intoxicated from the bubbling spring which I have measured out.' And he took him and withdrew and told him three things. When Thomas returned to his companions, they asked him: 'What did Jesus say to you?' Thomas said to them: 'If I tell you one of the things which he told me, you will pick up stones and throw them at me, and a fire will come out of the stones and burn you.'

15Jesus disse-lhes: 'Se jejuardes, gerareis pecado para vós; se orardes, sereis condenados; se derdes esmolas, fareis mal a vossos espíritos. Quando entrardes em qualquer país e caminhardes por qualquer lugar, se fordes recebidos, comei o que vos for oferecido e curai os enfermos entre eles. Pois o que entrar em vossa boca não vos maculará, mas o que sair de vossa boca – é isso que vos maculará.'

15Jesus said to them: 'If you fast, you will give rise to sin for yourselves; and if you pray, you will be condemned; and if you give alms, you will do harm to your spirits. When you go into any country and walk through the region, if they receive you, eat what they set before you and heal the sick among them. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you, but what comes out of your mouth—it is that which will defile you.'

16Jesus disse: 'Quando virdes aquele que não foi nascido de uma mulher, prostrai-vos com a face no chão e adorai-o: é ele o vosso Pai.'

16Jesus said: 'When you see one who was not born of woman, prostrate yourselves on your faces and worship him. That one is your Father.'

17Jesus disse: 'Talvez os homens pensem que vim lançar a paz sobre o mundo. Não sabem que é a discórdia que vim espalhar sobre a Terra: fogo, espada e disputa. Com efeito, havendo cinco numa casa, três estarão contra dois e dois contra três: o pai contra o filho e o filho contra o pai. E eles permanecerão solitários.'

17Jesus said: 'Perhaps men think that I came to cast peace upon the world. They do not know that it is dissension which I have come to spread upon the earth: fire, sword and strife. For there being five in a house, three will be against two and two against three: the father against the son and the son against the father. And they will stand solitary.'

18Jesus disse: 'Eu vos darei o que os olhos não viram, o que os ouvidos não ouviram, o que as mãos não tocaram e o que nunca ocorreu à mente do homem.'

18Jesus said: 'I will give you what eyes have not seen and what ears have not heard and what hands have not touched and what has never occurred to the human mind.'

19Os discípulos disseram a Jesus: 'Dize-nos como será o nosso fim.' Jesus disse: 'Haveis, então, discernido o princípio, para que estejais procurando o fim? Pois onde estiver o princípio ali estará o fim. Feliz daquele que tomar seu lugar no princípio: ele conhecerá o fim e não provará a morte.'

19The disciples said to Jesus: 'Tell us how our end will be.' Jesus said: 'Have you then discerned the beginning, that you seek the end? For where the beginning is, there will the end be. Blessed is he who takes his place in the beginning: he will know the end and will not taste death.'

20Jesus disse: 'Feliz o que já era antes de existir. Se vos tornardes meus discípulos e ouvirdes minhas palavras, estas pedras estarão a vosso serviço. Com efeito, há cinco árvores para vós no Paraíso que permanecem inalteradas inverno e verão, e cujas folhas não caem. Aquele que as conhecer não provará a morte.'

20Jesus said: 'Blessed is he who came into being before he came into being. If you become my disciples and listen to my words, these stones will serve you. For there are five trees for you in Paradise which remain unchanged winter and summer, and whose leaves do not fall. Whoever knows them will not taste death.'

21Os discípulos disseram a Jesus: 'Dize-nos a que se assemelha o reino do céu.' Ele lhes disse: 'Ele se assemelha a uma semente de mostarda, a menor de todas as sementes. Mas, quando cai em terra cultivada, produz uma grande planta e torna-se um refúgio para as aves do céu.'

21The disciples said to Jesus: 'Tell us what the kingdom of heaven is like.' He said to them: 'It is like a mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds. But when it falls on cultivated ground, it produces a large plant and becomes a shelter for the birds of heaven.'

22Maria disse a Jesus: 'A quem se assemelham teus discípulos?' Ele disse: 'Eles se parecem com crianças que se instalaram num campo que não lhes pertence. Quando os donos do campo vierem, dirão: Entregai nosso campo.'

22Mary said to Jesus: 'Whom are your disciples like?' He said: 'They are like children who have settled in a field which is not theirs. When the owners of the field come, they will say: Give up our field to us.'

23Jesus viu crianças sendo amamentadas. Ele disse a seus discípulos: 'Esses pequeninos que mamam são como aqueles que entram no Reino.' Eles lhe disseram: 'Nós também, como crianças, entraremos no Reino?' Jesus lhes disse: 'Quando fizerdes do dois um e quando fizerdes o interior como o exterior, o exterior como o interior, o acima como o embaixo e quando fizerdes do macho e da fêmea uma só coisa, então, entrareis no Reino.'

23Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples: 'These little ones who are being suckled are like those who enter the kingdom.' They said to him: 'Shall we then, as children, enter the kingdom?' Jesus said to them: 'When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside, and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, then you will enter the kingdom.'

24Jesus disse: 'Escolherei dentre vós, um entre mil e dois entre dez mil, e eles permanecerão como um só.'

24Jesus said: 'I shall choose you, one from a thousand and two from ten thousand, and they shall stand as one.'

25Seus discípulos disseram-lhe: 'Mostra-nos o lugar onde estás, pois precisamos procurá-lo.' Ele disse-lhes: 'Aquele que tem ouvidos, ouça! Há luz no interior do homem de luz e ele ilumina o mundo inteiro. Se ele não brilha, ele é escuridão.'

25His disciples said: 'Show us the place where you are, since it is necessary for us to seek it.' He said to them: 'Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness.'

26Jesus disse: 'Ama teu irmão como à tua alma, protege-o como a pupila de teus olhos.'

26Jesus said: 'Love your brother like your soul, protect him like the pupil of your eye.'

27Jesus disse: 'Tu vês o cisco no olho de teu irmão, mas não vês a trave em teu próprio olho. Quando retirares a trave de teu olho, então verás claramente e poderás retirar o cisco do olho de teu irmão.'

27Jesus said: 'You see the speck in your brother's eye, but you do not see the beam in your own eye. When you remove the beam from your eye, then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.'

28Jesus disse: 'Se não jejuardes com relação ao mundo, não encontrareis o Reino. Se não observardes o sábado como um sábado, não vereis o Pai.'

28Jesus said: 'If you do not fast with respect to the world, you will not find the kingdom. If you do not observe the Sabbath as a Sabbath, you will not see the Father.'

29Jesus disse: 'Assumi meu lugar no mundo e revelei-me a eles na carne. Encontrei todos embriagados. Não encontrei nenhum sedento, e minha alma ficou aflita pelos filhos dos homens, porque estão cegos em seus corações e não têm visão. Pois vazios vieram ao mundo e vazios procuram deixar o mundo. Mas no momento eles estão embriagados. Quando superarem a embriaguez, então mudarão sua maneira de pensar.'

29Jesus said: 'I took my place in the world and I revealed myself to them in the flesh. I found all of them drunk. I found none of them thirsty, and my soul was afflicted for the sons of men, because they are blind in their hearts and have no vision. For empty they came into the world and empty they seek to leave the world. But now they are drunk. When they shake off their wine, then they will change their mind.'

30Jesus disse: 'Seria uma maravilha se a carne tivesse surgido por causa do espírito. Mas seria a maior das maravilhas se o espírito tivesse surgido por causa do corpo. Estou realmente surpreso pela forma como essa grande riqueza fez morada nessa pobreza.'

30Jesus said: 'If the flesh came into being because of spirit, it is a wonder. But if spirit came into being because of the body, it is a wonder of wonders. Indeed, I am amazed at how this great wealth has made its home in this poverty.'

31Jesus disse: 'Onde há três deuses, eles são deuses. Onde há dois ou um, estou com ele.'

31Jesus said: 'Where there are three gods, they are gods. Where there are two or one, I am with him.'

32Jesus disse: 'Nenhum profeta é aceito em sua cidade; nenhum médico cura aqueles que o conhecem.'

32Jesus said: 'No prophet is accepted in his own village; no physician heals those who know him.'

33Jesus disse: 'Uma cidade construída e fortificada sobre uma montanha elevada não pode cair nem pode ser escondida.'

33Jesus said: 'A city being built on a high mountain and fortified cannot fall, nor can it be hidden.'

34Jesus disse: 'Proclamai sobre os telhados aquilo que ouvirdes com vosso próprio ouvido. Pois ninguém acende uma lâmpada e coloca-a debaixo de um cesto, tampouco coloca-a num lugar escondido, mas num candelabro, para que todos que venham a entrar e sair vejam sua luz.'

34Jesus said: 'Proclaim from your housetops what you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters and leaves will see its light.'

35Jesus disse: 'Se um cego guia outro cego, ambos cairão numa cova.'

35Jesus said: 'If a blind man leads a blind man, they will both fall into a pit.'

36Jesus disse: 'Não é possível que alguém entre na casa de um homem forte e tome-a à força, a menos que lhe ate as mãos; então será capaz de saquear sua casa.'

36Jesus said: 'It is not possible for anyone to enter the house of a strong man and take it by force unless he binds his hands; then he will be able to plunder his house.'

37Jesus disse: 'Não vos preocupeis de manhã até a noite e de noite até a manhã com o que vestireis.'

37Jesus said: 'Do not worry from morning to night and from night to morning about what you will wear.'

38Seus discípulos disseram: 'Quando tu te revelarás a nós e quando te veremos?' Jesus disse: 'Quando vos despirdes sem vos envergonhardes e tomardes vossas vestes e, colocando-as sobre vossos pés, pisardes sobre elas como criancinhas, então vereis o filho daquele que vive e não tereis medo.'

38His disciples said: 'When will you reveal yourself to us and when shall we see you?' Jesus said: 'When you disrobe without being ashamed and take your garments and place them under your feet like little children and trample on them, then you will see the son of the living one and you will not be afraid.'

39Jesus disse: 'Muitas vezes haveis desejado ouvir essas palavras que vos digo, e não tendes outro de quem ouvi-las. Pois virão dias em que me procurareis e não me encontrareis.'

39Jesus said: 'Many times you have desired to hear these words which I am saying to you, and you have no one else from whom to hear them. For there will be days when you will seek me and will not find me.'

40Jesus disse: 'Os fariseus e os escribas tomaram as chaves da gnosis. Eles não entraram nem deixaram entrar aqueles que queriam entrar. Vós, no entanto, sede sábios como as serpentes e mansos como as pombas.'

40Jesus said: 'The Pharisees and the scribes have taken the keys of knowledge. They have not entered nor have they allowed to enter those who wish to enter. You, however, be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves.'

41Jesus disse: 'Uma parreira foi plantada fora do Pai, porém, não sendo saudável, ela será arrancada pela raiz e destruída.'

41Jesus said: 'A grapevine has been planted outside of the Father, but being unsound, it will be pulled up by its roots and destroyed.'

42Jesus disse: 'Quem tiver algo em sua mão receberá mais, e quem não tiver nada perderá até mesmo o pouco que tem.'

42Jesus said: 'Whoever has something in his hand will receive more, and whoever has nothing will lose even the little he has.'

43Jesus disse: 'Tornai-vos transeuntes.'

43Jesus said: 'Become passers-by.'

44Seus discípulos disseram-lhe: 'Quem és tu para dizer-nos tais coisas?' Jesus disse-lhes: 'Não percebeis quem sou eu pelo que vos digo, mas vos tornastes como os judeus! Com efeito, eles amam a árvore e odeiam seus frutos ou amam os frutos, mas odeiam a árvore.'

44His disciples said to him: 'Who are you, that you should say these things to us?' Jesus said to them: 'You do not realize who I am from what I say to you, but you have become like the Jews! Indeed, they love the tree and hate its fruit or love the fruit but hate the tree.'

45Jesus disse: 'Quem blasfemar contra o Pai será perdoado e quem blasfemar contra o Filho será perdoado, mas quem blasfemar contra o Espírito Santo não será perdoado nem na terra nem no céu.'

45Jesus said: 'Whoever blasphemes against the Father will be forgiven, and whoever blasphemes against the Son will be forgiven, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven either on earth or in heaven.'

46Jesus disse: 'Não se colhe uvas dos espinheiros nem figos dos cardos, pois eles não dão frutos. O homem bom retira o bem do seu tesouro; o malvado retira o mal de seu tesouro malévolo, que está em seu coração. Pois da abundância do coração ele retira coisas más.'

46Jesus said: 'Grapes are not harvested from thorns, nor are figs gathered from thistles, for they do not produce fruit. The good man brings forth good from his treasure; the wicked man brings forth evil things from his evil treasure, which is in his heart. For out of the abundance of the heart he brings forth evil things.'

47Jesus disse: 'Dentre os que nasceram da mulher, desde Adão até João, o Batista, não há ninguém superior a João. Mas eu digo, aquele dentre vós que se tornar uma criança conhecerá o Reino e se tornará superior a João.'

47Jesus said: 'Among those born of women, from Adam until John the Baptist, there is no one superior to John. But I say, whoever among you becomes a child will know the kingdom and will become superior to John.'

48Jesus disse: 'É impossível para um homem montar dois cavalos ou retesar dois arcos. E é impossível que um servo sirva a dois senhores, pois ele honra um e ofende o outro.'

48Jesus said: 'It is impossible for a man to mount two horses or to stretch two bows. And it is impossible for a servant to serve two masters, for he will honor one and offend the other.'

49Jesus disse: 'Se os dois fizerem as pazes nesta casa, eles dirão a montanha: Move-te! e ela se moverá.'

49Jesus said: 'If two make peace with each other in this house, they will say to the mountain: Move away! and it will move away.'

50Jesus disse: 'Bem aventurados os solitários e os eleitos, pois encontrareis o Reino. Pois, viestes dele e para ele retornareis.'

50Jesus said: 'Blessed are the solitary and elect, for you will find the kingdom. For you came from it and to it you will return.'

51Jesus disse: 'Se vos perguntarem: De onde vindes? respondei: Viemos da luz, do lugar onde a luz nasceu dela mesma, estabeleceu-se e tornou-se manifesta por meio de suas imagens.'

51Jesus said: 'If they ask you: From where do you come? say to them: We came from the light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord and established itself and became manifest through their image.'

52Seus discípulos disseram-lhe: 'Quando ocorrerá o repouso dos mortos e quando virá o novo mundo?' Ele disse-lhes: 'Aquilo que esperais já chegou, mas não o reconheceis.'

52His disciples said to him: 'When will the rest of the dead occur and when will the new world come?' He said to them: 'What you are looking forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it.'

53Seus discípulos disseram-lhe: 'Vinte e quatro profetas falaram em Israel e todos falaram de ti.' Ele disse-lhes: 'Omitistes aquele que vive em vossa presença e falastes dos mortos.'

53His disciples said to him: 'Twenty-four prophets spoke in Israel, and all of them spoke of you.' He said to them: 'You have omitted the one living in your presence and have spoken of the dead.'

54Seus discípulos disseram-lhe: 'A circuncisão é benéfica ou não?' Ele disse-lhes: 'Se ela fosse benéfica, os pais gerariam filhos já circuncisos de sua mãe. Mas a verdadeira circuncisão, a espiritual, tornou-se inteiramente proveitosa.'

54His disciples said to him: 'Is circumcision beneficial or not?' He said to them: 'If it were beneficial, their father would beget them already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become completely profitable.'

55Jesus disse: 'Bem-aventurados os pobres, pois vosso é o Reino do céu.'

55Jesus said: 'Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of heaven.'

56Jesus disse: 'Aquele que não odiar seu pai e sua mãe não poderá se tornar meu discípulo. E quem não odiar seus irmãos e irmãs e tomar sua cruz, como eu, não será digno de mim.'

56Jesus said: 'Whoever does not hate his father and his mother cannot become my disciple. And whoever does not hate his brothers and sisters and take up his cross as I do will not be worthy of me.'

57Jesus disse: 'Aquele que conseguiu compreender o mundo encontrou somente um cadáver, e quem encontrou um cadáver é superior ao mundo.'

57Jesus said: 'Whoever has come to understand the world has found only a corpse, and whoever has found a corpse is superior to the world.'

58Jesus disse: 'O Reino do Pai é semelhante ao homem que tem boa semente. Seu inimigo veio durante a noite e semeou joio por cima da boa semente. No dia da colheita as ervas daninhas estarão bem visíveis e serão, então, arrancadas e queimadas.'

58Jesus said: 'The kingdom of the Father is like a man who has good seed. His enemy came by night and sowed weeds among the good seed. On the day of harvest the weeds will be plainly visible, and then they will be pulled up and burned.'

59Jesus disse: 'Bem-aventurado o homem que sofreu e encontrou a vida.'

59Jesus said: 'Blessed is the man who has suffered and found life.'

60Jesus disse: 'Prestai atenção àquele que vive enquanto estais vivos, para que, ao morrerdes, não fiqueis procurando vê-lo sem conseguir.'

60Jesus said: 'Pay attention to the living one while you are alive, lest you die and seek to see him and be unable to do so.'

61Eles viram um samaritano carregando um cordeiro a caminho da Judéia. Jesus disse a seus discípulos: 'Por que o homem está carregando o cordeiro?' Eles disseram-lhe: 'Para matá-lo e comê-lo.' Ele disse-lhes: 'Vós, também, buscai um lugar para vós no repouso, a fim de que não vos torneis um cadáver e sejais devorados.'

61They saw a Samaritan carrying a lamb on his way to Judea. He said to his disciples: 'Why is the man carrying the lamb?' They said to him: 'In order that he may kill it and eat it.' He said to them: 'You, also, seek a place for yourselves within repose, lest you become a corpse and be eaten.'

62Jesus disse: 'Dois repousarão sobre um leito: um morrerá, o outro viverá.' Salomé disse: 'Quem és tu homem, que te acomodaste em meu divã e comeste à minha mesa?' Jesus disse-lhe: 'Eu sou aquele que existe a partir do indivisível.'

62Jesus said: 'Two will rest on a bed: one will die, the other will live.' Salome said: 'Who are you, man, that you have come up on my couch and eaten from my table?' Jesus said to her: 'I am he who exists from the undivided.'

63Jesus disse: 'Eu digo meus mistérios aos que são dignos de meus mistérios. Que a tua mão esquerda não saiba o que faz a tua mão direita.'

63Jesus said: 'I tell my mysteries to those who are worthy of my mysteries. Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.'

64Jesus disse: 'Havia um rico que tinha muito dinheiro. Ele disse: Empregarei meu dinheiro para semear, colher, plantar e encher meu celeiro. Essas eram suas intenções, mas naquela mesma noite ele morreu. Aquele que tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.'

64Jesus said: 'There was a rich man who had much money. He said: I shall invest my money so that I may sow, reap, plant, and fill my barns with produce. Those were his intentions, but that same night he died. Whoever has ears, let him hear.'

65Jesus disse: 'Um homem tinha convidados para a ceia. O servo foi convidar mas todos deram desculpas. O senhor disse ao servo: Vai lá fora pelos caminhos e traze os que encontrares. Os homens de negócios e mercadores não entrarão no recinto de meu Pai.'

65Jesus said: 'A man had invited guests to a supper. The servant went to invite, but all gave excuses. The master said to his servant: Go outside to the roads and bring back whomever you find. Businessmen and merchants will not enter the places of my Father.'

66Ele disse: 'Um homem de bem tinha uma vinha. Ele enviou seu servo e depois seu filho, mas os arrendatários os maltrataram e mataram o filho. Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.'

66He said: 'A good man had a vineyard. He sent his slave and then his son, but the tenants mistreated them and killed the son. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.'

67Jesus disse: 'Mostrai-me a pedra que os construtores rejeitaram; ela é a pedra angular.'

67Jesus said: 'Show me the stone which the builders have rejected. It is the cornerstone.'

68Jesus disse: 'Se alguém que conhece o todo ainda sente uma deficiência pessoal, ele é completamente deficiente.'

68Jesus said: 'If someone who knows the All still feels a personal deficiency, he is completely deficient.'

69Jesus disse: 'Bem-aventurados os que são odiados e perseguidos. Mas os que vos perseguirem não encontrarão lugar.'

69Jesus said: 'Blessed are those who are hated and persecuted. But those who have persecuted you will find no place.'

70Jesus disse: 'Bem-aventurados aqueles que foram perseguidos em seu interior. São eles que realmente conheceram o Pai. Bem-aventurados os famintos, porque se encherá o ventre de quem tem desejo.'

70Jesus said: 'Blessed are those who have been persecuted within themselves. It is they who have truly come to know the Father. Blessed are the hungry, for the belly of him who desires will be filled.'

71Jesus disse: 'Aquilo que tendes vos salvará se o manifestardes. Aquilo que não tendes em vosso interior vos matará se não o tiverdes dentro de vós.'

71Jesus said: 'What you have will save you if you bring it forth from yourselves. What you do not have within you will kill you if you do not have it within you.'

72Jesus disse: 'Destruirei esta casa e ninguém será capaz de reconstruí-la.'

72Jesus said: 'I shall destroy this house, and no one will be able to rebuild it.'

73Um homem disse-lhe: 'Dize a meus irmãos para que partilhem os bens de meu pai comigo.' Ele lhe disse: 'Ó, homem, quem me institui partilhador?'

73A man said to him: 'Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me.' He said to him: 'O man, who has made me a divider?'

74Jesus disse: 'A colheita é grande mas os operários são poucos. Portanto, implorai ao senhor para que envie operários para a colheita.'

74Jesus said: 'The harvest is great but the laborers are few. Therefore, implore the lord to send laborers for the harvest.'

75Ele disse: 'Ó senhor, há muitas pessoas ao redor do bebedouro, mas não há nada na cisterna.'

75He said: 'O lord, there are many around the drinking trough, but there is nothing in the cistern.'

76Jesus disse: 'Muitos estão aguardando à porta, mas são os solitários que entrarão na câmara nupcial.'

76Jesus said: 'Many are standing at the door, but it is the solitary who will enter the bridal chamber.'

77O Reino do pai é semelhante ao comerciante que tinha uma consignação de mercadorias e nelas descobriu uma pérola. Esse comerciante era astuto. Ele vendeu as mercadorias e adquiriu a pérola maravilhosa para si.

77The kingdom of the Father is like a merchant who had a consignment of merchandise and in them he discovered a pearl. That merchant was shrewd. He sold the merchandise and purchased the pearl alone for himself.

78Jesus disse: 'Eu sou a luz que está sobre todos eles. Eu sou o todo. De mim surgiu o todo e de mim o todo se estendeu. Rachai um pedaço de madeira, e eu estou lá. Levantai a pedra e me encontrareis lá.'

78Jesus said: 'I am the light that is over all things. I am all. From me all came forth, and to me all attained. Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there.'

79Jesus disse: 'Por que viestes ao deserto? Para ver um caniço agitado pelo vento? E para ver um homem vestido com roupas finas? Esses usam roupas finas, mas são incapazes de discernir a verdade.'

79Jesus said: 'Why have you come out into the desert? To see a reed shaken by the wind? And to see a man clothed in fine garments? They wear fine garments, but they are unable to discern the truth.'

80Uma mulher na multidão disse-lhe: 'Bem-aventurado o ventre que te portou e os seios que te amamentaram.' Ele disse-lhe: 'Bem-aventurados os que ouviram a palavra do Pai e que realmente a guardaram.'

80A woman from the crowd said to him: 'Blessed are the womb which bore you and the breasts which nourished you.' He said to her: 'Blessed are those who have heard the word of the Father and have truly kept it.'

81Jesus disse: 'Aquele que reconheceu o mundo encontrou o corpo, mas aquele que encontrou o corpo é superior ao mundo.'

81Jesus said: 'He who has recognized the world has found the body, but he who has found the body is superior to the world.'

82Jesus disse: 'Quem enriqueceu, torne-se rei, mas quem tem poder que possa renunciar a ele.'

82Jesus said: 'Let him who has grown rich become king, and let him who possesses power renounce it.'

83Jesus disse: 'Aquele que está perto de mim está perto do fogo, e aquele que está longe de mim está longe do Reino.'

83Jesus said: 'He who is near me is near the fire, and he who is far from me is far from the kingdom.'

84Jesus disse: 'As imagens manifestam-se ao homem, mas a luz que está nelas permanece oculta na imagem da luz do Pai.'

84Jesus said: 'The images are manifest to man, but the light in them remains concealed in the image of the light of the Father.'

85Jesus disse: 'Quando vedes vossa semelhança, vós vos rejubilais. Mas, quando virdes vossas imagens que surgiram antes de vós, quanto tereis de suportar!'

85Jesus said: 'When you see your likeness, you rejoice. But when you see your images which came into being before you, how much will you have to bear!'

86Jesus disse: 'Adão surgiu de um grande poder e de uma grande riqueza, mas ele não se tornou digno de vós. Pois, se tivesse sido digno, não teria experimentado a morte.'

86Jesus said: 'Adam came into being from a great power and a great wealth, but he did not become worthy of you. For had he been worthy, he would not have experienced death.'

87Jesus disse: 'As raposas têm suas tocas e as aves têm seus ninhos, mas o filho do homem não tem nenhum lugar para pousar sua cabeça e descansar.'

87Jesus said: 'Foxes have their holes and birds have their nests, but the son of man has no place to lay his head and rest.'

88Jesus disse: 'Miserável do corpo que depende de um corpo e da alma que depende desses dois.'

88Jesus said: 'Wretched is the body that is dependent upon a body, and wretched is the soul that is dependent on these two.'

89Jesus disse: 'Os anjos e os profetas virão a vós e darão aquelas coisas que já tendes. E dai vós também a eles as coisas que tendes.'

89Jesus said: 'The angels and the prophets will come to you and give you those things you already have. And you too, give them those things which you have.'

90Jesus disse: 'Por que lavais o exterior da taça? Não compreendeis que aquele que fez o interior é o mesmo que fez o exterior?'

90Jesus said: 'Why do you wash the outside of the cup? Do you not realize that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?'

91Jesus disse: 'Vinde a mim, pois meu jugo é fácil e meu domínio é suave, e encontrareis repouso para vós.'

91Jesus said: 'Come to me, for my yoke is easy and my lordship is mild, and you will find repose for yourselves.'

92Eles disseram-lhe: 'Dize-nos quem tu és, para que possamos crer em ti.' Ele disse-lhes: 'Vós decifrastes a face do céu e da terra, mas não reconhecestes aquele que está diante de vós.'

92They said to him: 'Tell us who you are so that we may believe in you.' He said to them: 'You read the face of the sky and of the earth, but you have not recognized the one who is before you.'

93Jesus disse: 'Buscai e encontrareis. No entanto, aquilo que me perguntastes anteriormente e que não vos respondi então, agora desejo vos dizer mas vós não me perguntais sobre aquilo.'

93Jesus said: 'Seek and you will find. Yet, what you asked me about in former times and which I did not tell you then, now I desire to tell, but you do not inquire after it.'

94Jesus disse: 'Não deis aos cães o que é sagrado, para que eles não o joguem no esterco. Não atireis pérolas aos porcos.'

94Jesus said: 'Do not give what is holy to dogs, lest they throw it on the dung-heap. Do not throw pearls to swine.'

95Jesus disse: 'Quem busca, encontrará, e quem bate terá permissão para entrar.'

95Jesus said: 'He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in.'

96Jesus disse: 'Se tendes dinheiro, não o empresteis a juro, mas dai-o àquele de quem não o recebereis de volta.'

96Jesus said: 'If you have money, do not lend it at interest, but give it to one from whom you will not get it back.'

97Jesus disse: 'O Reino do Pai é como uma certa mulher. Ela tomou um pouco de fermento, escondeu-o na massa, e fez com ela grandes pães. Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça!'

97Jesus said: 'The kingdom of the Father is like a certain woman. She took a little leaven, concealed it in some dough, and made it into large loaves. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear!'

98Jesus disse: 'O Reino do Pai é como uma certa mulher que estava carregando um cântaro cheio de farinha. A alça do cântaro partiu-se e a farinha foi caindo pelo caminho. Quando chegou em casa, percebeu que o cântaro estava vazio.'

98Jesus said: 'The kingdom of the Father is like a certain woman who was carrying a jar full of meal. While she was walking on the road, still some distance from home, the handle of the jar broke and the meal emptied out behind her on the road. She did not realize it; she had noticed no accident. When she reached her house, she set the jar down and found it empty.'

99Jesus disse: 'O Reino do Pai é como um certo homem que queria matar um homem poderoso. Em sua própria casa ele desembainhou a espada e enfiou-a na parede para saber se sua mão poderia realizar a tarefa. Então ele matou o homem poderoso.'

99Jesus said: 'The kingdom of the Father is like a certain man who wanted to kill a powerful man. In his own house he drew his sword and stuck it into the wall in order to find out whether his hand could carry through. Then he slew the powerful man.'

100Os discípulos disseram-lhe: 'Teus irmãos e tua mãe estão aguardando lá fora.' Ele disse-lhes: 'Estes que estão aqui que fazem a vontade de meu Pai são meus irmãos e minha mãe. São eles que entrarão no Reino de meu Pai.'

100The disciples said to him: 'Your brothers and your mother are standing outside.' He said to them: 'Those here who do the will of my Father are my brothers and my mother. It is they who will enter the kingdom of my Father.'

101Eles mostraram uma moeda de ouro a Jesus e disseram-lhe: 'Os homens de César exigem-nos tributo.' Ele disse-lhes: 'Dai a César o que é de César, dai a Deus o que é de Deus, e dai a mim o que é meu.'

101They showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him: 'Caesar's men demand taxes from us.' He said to them: 'Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, give God what belongs to God, and give me what is mine.'

102Jesus disse: 'Quem não odeia seu pai e sua mãe como eu não pode se tornar meu discípulo. E quem não ama seu pai e sua mãe como eu não pode se tornar meu discípulo. Porque minha verdadeira mãe deu-me a vida.'

102Jesus said: 'Whoever does not hate his father and his mother as I do cannot become my disciple. And whoever does not love his father and his mother as I do cannot become my disciple. For my true mother gave me life.'

103Jesus disse: 'Ai dos fariseus, porque eles são como um cachorro dormindo na manjedoura dos bois, pois eles não comem nem permitem que os bois comam.'

103Jesus said: 'Woe to the Pharisees, for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen, for neither does he eat nor does he allow the oxen to eat.'

104Jesus disse: 'Feliz do homem que sabe por onde os ladrões vão entrar, porque dessa forma ele pode se levantar, passar em revista seu domínio e armar-se antes deles chegarem.'

104Jesus said: 'Blessed is the man who knows where the brigands will enter, so that he may get up, marshal his domain, and arm himself before they invade.'

105Eles disseram a Jesus: 'Vem, oremos e jejuemos hoje.' Jesus disse: 'Qual foi o pecado que cometi ou em que fui vencido? Porém, quando o noivo deixar a câmara nupcial, então que eles jejuem e orem.'

105They said to Jesus: 'Come, let us pray today and let us fast.' Jesus said: 'What is the sin that I have committed, or wherein have I been defeated? But when the bridegroom leaves the bridal chamber, then let them fast and pray.'

106Jesus disse: 'Quem conhece o pai e a mãe será chamado filho de prostituta.'

106Jesus said: 'He who knows the father and the mother will be called the son of a harlot.'

107Jesus disse: 'Quando fizerdes de dois, um, vos tornareis filhos do homem, e quando disserdes: Montanha, move-te! ela se moverá.'

107Jesus said: 'When you make the two one, you will become sons of man, and when you say: Mountain, move away! it will move away.'

108Jesus disse: 'O Reino é como um pastor que tinha cem ovelhas. Uma delas, a maior de todas, extraviou-se. Ele deixou as noventa e nove e foi procurá-la, até encontrá-la. Ele disse à ovelha: Eu me interesso por ti mais do que pelas noventa e nove.'

108Jesus said: 'The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine and looked for that one until he found it. He said to the sheep: I love you more than the ninety-nine.'

109Jesus disse: 'Quem beber de minha boca tornar-se-á como eu. Eu mesmo me tornarei ele, e as coisas que estão ocultas ser-lhe-ão reveladas.'

109Jesus said: 'Whoever drinks from my mouth will become like me. I myself shall become he, and the things that are hidden will be revealed to him.'

110Jesus disse: 'O Reino é como o homem que tinha um tesouro escondido em seu campo sem saber. Após sua morte, o filho herdou o campo e o vendeu. O comprador ao arar o campo encontrou o tesouro.'

110Jesus said: 'The kingdom is like a man who had a treasure hidden in his field without knowing it. And after he died, he left it to his son. The son did not know about the treasure. He inherited the field and sold it. And the one who bought it went plowing and found the treasure.'

111Jesus disse: 'Quem encontrou o mundo e tornou-se rico, que renuncie ao mundo.'

111Jesus said: 'Whoever finds the world and becomes rich, let him renounce the world.'

112Jesus disse: 'Os céus e a terra se dobrarão diante de vós. E aquele que vive do Vivo não conhecerá a morte.'

112Jesus said: 'The heavens and the earth will be rolled up in your presence. And the one who lives from the living one will not see death.'

113Jesus disse: 'Ai da carne que depende da alma; ai da alma que depende da carne.'

113Jesus said: 'Woe to the flesh that depends on the soul; woe to the soul that depends on the flesh.'

114Seus discípulos disseram-lhe: 'Quando virá o Reino?' Jesus disse: 'Ele não virá porque é esperado. Na verdade, o Reino do Pai está espalhado pela terra e os homens não o vêem.'

114His disciples said to him: 'When will the kingdom come?' Jesus said: 'It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be a matter of saying, Here it is or There it is. Rather, the kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it.'
