Atos de Xantipa e Polixena 34

1E seguiu pelo caminho lamentando-se e dizendo: Ai de mim, desventurado e abominável!

1And he going on his way lamented, saying, Woe is me, wretched and abominable one.

2Ai de mim, que pensava praticar o bem e causei ruína!

2Woe is me that thought to do good, but now I have wrought mischief.

3Ai de mim, que minha aflição e meus esforços não foram aceitos!

3Woe is me that my trouble and my running were unacceptable.

4Quem me dera ter morrido antes de ontem, para que nunca tivesse encontrado estas donzelas!

4Would that I had died before yesterday, that I might not have met with these maidens at all.

5Mas por que me atormentas, ó desventurada alma?

5But why do you trouble me, O wretched soul?

6Vamos a Filipe, o apóstolo de Deus.

6Let us go to Philip the apostle of God.

7Se não houver perdão para mim, melhor será escolher a morte de qualquer maneira do que viver com tão má e amarga consciência.

7If there is not forgiveness for me, it is better for me to choose death in whatsoever fashion than to live with such evil and bitter conscience.

8Foi, pois, e encontrou Filipe, o apóstolo de Cristo, e disse-lhe: Ó discípulo e pregador de Cristo, tais e tais coisas me aconteceram e me sobrevieram.

8So he went and found Philip the apostle of Christ, and said to him, O disciple and preacher of Christ, thus and thus it has happened to me and befallen me.

9Haverá salvação para a minha alma?

9Has my soul salvation?

10Disse-lhe Filipe, o apóstolo de Cristo: Não te aflijas por isto, meu filho; é impossível que elas sofram desonra, visto que ninguém jamais vence a Deus; pois esta mesma Polixena, quando aportou do mar, confiei-a a certo irmão que também se entristeceu por ter ela fugido de sua casa.

10Philip the apostle of Christ said, Be not distressed concerning this, my son, it is impossible for them to be dishonoured, seeing that no one ever overcomes God; for this same Polyxena, when she first came from the sea, I entrusted to a certain brother, who also was greatly distressed because of her running away secretly from his house.

11A ele também consolei, pois mediante as tribulações e peregrinações dela muitos virão ao conhecimento do Senhor.

11Him also I persuaded not to grieve, for through her tribulation and wanderings many shall know God.
