Atos de Xantipa e Polixena 30

1Portanto, enquanto o apóstolo estava de pé orando, eis que a leoa veio correndo e parou a contemplá-lo.

1Therefore the apostle standing prayed, and, behold, the lioness came running, and stood gazing upon him.

2Disse André, o apóstolo do Senhor: Que deseja esta criatura?

2And Andrew the apostle of the Lord said, What then does this beast wish?

3Abrindo a leoa a sua boca, falou com voz humana: André, apóstolo de Cristo, a oração desta virgem que está à tua direita alcançou-me.

3The lioness opening her mouth spoke with a human voice, Andrew, apostle of Christ, the prayer of her, that stands on your right hand, has overtaken me.

4Portanto confirma-as, instrui-as e admoesta-as na verdadeira e reta fé de Cristo, pois elas anseiam ardentemente pelo nome do Senhor.

4Therefore confirm and instruct and admonish them in the right and true faith of Christ, for they greatly desire the name of the Lord.

5E contemplai a maravilhosa condescendência de Deus, que até sobre animais irracionais e ferozes derramou a Sua compaixão.

5And, behold, the wonderful condescension of God, that even on irrational and untamable beasts he has poured out his mercy.

6O bem-aventurado André, chorando, disse: Que direi ou que falarei a respeito de Tua misericórdia, ó Deus, que em todo tempo Te achegas aos humildes e cuidas dos ignorantes, sendo sem arrogância e cheio de misericórdia?

6The blessed Andrew weeping said, What shall I say or what shall I speak concerning your mercy, O God, that thus you at all times cleave to the lowly, and take care of those in ignorance, being without arrogance and full of mercy?

7E concluída a oração, batizou-as em nome do Pai, do Filho e do Espírito Santo.

7And having completed the prayer he baptized them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

8Então a leoa partiu imediatamente para a montanha, e o apóstolo André disse às donzelas: Esforçai-vos, filhas, para ter boa reputação diante de Deus vivendo bem em terra estranha, e não vos separeis; e Deus, sempre presente para os que O invocam, vos guarde em santidade e afaste de vós o Maligno.

8Then the lioness immediately set off to the mountain, and the Apostle Andrew said to the maidens, Be zealous, daughters, to be of good repute before God by living well in a strange land, and separate not from each other, and God, that is always present to those that call upon him, keep you in holiness, driving away from you the Evil One.

9E orai também por mim.

9And pray also for me.

10Disse Polixena: Seguir-te-emos aonde quer que fores.

10Polyxena said, We will follow you wherever you go.

11Disse o apóstolo André: Isto não me foi dado a conhecer pelo Senhor, filhas; portanto, permanecei em paz, esperando no Senhor, e Ele vos preservará até o fim.

11The Apostle Andrew said, This was not made known to me by the Lord, daughters; therefore remain with peace, hoping in the Lord, and he will preserve you to the end.
