Atos de Xantipa e Polixena 28

1Ao dizer ela isto, vinha também viajando por aquele sítio o apóstolo do Senhor, André; e aproximando-se de Polixena sentiu em seu coração uma comoção interior.

1As she said this, Andrew, the apostle of the Lord, also came journeying to that place, and as he drew near to Polyxena he felt in his heart some commotion arising in himself.

2Pondo-se de pé para orar e cruzando os braços em forma de cruz, disse: Senhor Jesus Cristo, participante da luz e conhecedor das coisas ocultas, de quem nada na terra se esconde, trata-me com bondade e misericórdia, esclarece-me esta comoção do coração e acalma a minha razão, Tu que sempre fazes a paz com os que amam a paz.

2Standing, therefore, to pray, and folding his arms in the shape of the cross, he said, Lord Jesus Christ, partaker of light and knower of things hidden, from whom nothing on earth is hid, do unto me kindness and mercy, and make clear to me this commotion of heart, and calm my reason, you that makest peace always with those that love peace.

3Correu então Polixena para ele, e André, o apóstolo do Senhor, disse-lhe: Não te aproximes de mim, filha, mas dize-me quem és e de onde vens.

3Then Polyxena ran to him, and Andrew, the apostle of the Lord, said to her, Approach me not, daughter, but tell me who and whence you are.

4Disse Polixena: Meu senhor, sou estrangeira aqui, mas vejo que a tua face é cheia de graça e as tuas palavras assemelham-se às palavras de Paulo, pelo que julgo seres ministro do mesmo Deus.

4Polyxena said, My lord, I am a stranger here, but I see your face is gracious, and your words as the words of Paul, and I suppose you to be of the same God.

5Compreendeu André que ela falava do apóstolo Paulo e perguntou-lhe: E de onde conheces Paulo?

5Andrew understood that she spoke of the apostle Paul, and said to her, And whence do you know of Paul?

6Respondeu ela: Da minha própria pátria, pois deixei-o na Espanha.

6She said, From my own country, for I left him in Spain.

7Disse-lhe André: E como vieste parar aqui, sendo aquela terra tão distante?

7Andrew said to her, And how do you happen to be here, the country being far distant?

8Ela disse: Porque assim me foi destinado e assim aconteceu; mas suplico-te, prostrada a teus pés, que me seles, como Paulo sela, pelo batismo da regeneração, para que eu também, humilde, seja conhecida por nosso Deus, pois o Deus bondoso, vendo minha tribulação e aflição, enviou-te para teres piedade de mim.

8She said, Because it was thus appointed for me, and came to pass; but I beseech you and fall at your feet, seal me, as Paul seals, by the baptism of regeneration, so that even I, lowly one, may be known by our God, for the kind God, seeing my tribulation and distress, sent you to pity me.

9Disse-lhe o grande apóstolo André: Vamos, filha, onde haja água.

9Andrew, the great apostle of the Lord, said to her, Let us go, daughter, where there is water.
