Atos de Xantipa e Polixena 1

1Estando o bem-aventurado Paulo em Roma pela palavra do Senhor, sucedeu que certo servo de um governante da Espanha veio a Roma com cartas de seu senhor, e ouviu a palavra de Deus de Paulo, o verdadeiro e formoso rouxinol dourado.

1When the blessed Paul was at Rome through the word of the Lord, it happened that a certain servant of a ruler of Spain came to Rome with letters of his master's, and heard the word of God from Paul, the truly golden and beautiful nightingale.

2Sendo este servo grandemente tocado no íntimo, e não podendo demorar-se para fartar-se da palavra divina por estar apressado pelas cartas, regressou à Espanha em grande pesar; e, incapaz de manifestar o seu anelo a quem quer que fosse por ser seu senhor idólatra, andava continuamente aflito de coração e a suspirar com frequência.

2This servant being greatly touched, and being unable to remain and be filled with the divine word because he was hastened by the letters, returned into Spain in great grief, and being unable to show his desire to any one, because his master was an idolater, he was always pained at heart and sighing greatly.

3Ora, este servo era honrado e fiel a seus senhores; e, passando o tempo, caiu enfermo e definhou em suas carnes, o que notando o seu senhor, disse-lhe: Que te sucedeu que assim estás abatido de semblante?

3Now this servant was honoured and faithful to his masters, and as time went past, the servant fell sick and grew lean of flesh, which his master perceiving said to him, What has happened to you that you are thus fallen together in countenance?

4Disse o servo: Há uma grande dor em meu coração, e de modo algum posso achar descanso.

4The servant said, There is a great pain in my heart, and I can in no way find rest.

5Disse-lhe o senhor: E qual é a dor que não pode receber remédio do meu médico principal?

5His master said to him, And what is the pain that cannot receive healing from my chief physician?

6Disse o servo: Quando eu ainda estava em Roma, esta dor e sua desventura recorrente se me fizeram conhecer.

6The servant said, While I was still in Rome, this pain and its recurring mishap made itself known to me.

7Disse-lhe o senhor: E não conheces a ninguém que tenha caído nesta enfermidade e tenha sido curado?

7His master said, And do you not know of any who have fallen into this disease and been healed?

8Disse o servo: Sim, mas onde está esse médico não sei, pois deixei-o em Roma.

8The servant said, Yes, but where that physician is I know not, for I left him in Rome.

9Quantos foram atendidos por aquele médico e passaram pelas águas sob as suas mãos, receberam cura imediatamente.

9So many as have been attended by that physician and have gone through the water in his hands, have received healing immediately.

10Disse o senhor: Não devo poupar esforços para enviar-te outra vez a Roma, se porventura possas obter a cura.

10His master said, I ought not to grudge to send you yet again to Rome, if perchance you might obtain healing.
