Atos de Pedro 5

1E enquanto oravam e jejuavam, Deus já estava ensinando a Pedro em Jerusalém acerca daquilo que haveria de acontecer. Pois, cumpridos os doze anos que o Senhor Cristo lhe havia ordenado, mostrou-lhe uma visão deste modo, dizendo-lhe: Pedro, aquele Simão, o mago, a quem lançaste fora da Judeia, convencendo-o, adiantou-se novamente a ti em Roma. E isso saberás em breve; pois a todos os que criam em mim Satanás fez cair pelo seu engano e operação, cujo Poder Simão comprova ser. Mas não te demores: põe-te a caminho no dia seguinte, e ali acharás um navio aparelhado, que zarpa para a Itália, e dentro de poucos dias mostrar-te-ei a minha graça, na qual não há recusa alguma. Pedro, pois, advertido pela visão, relatou-a aos irmãos sem demora, dizendo: É-me necessário subir a Roma para pelejar contra o inimigo e adversário do Senhor e de nossos irmãos.

1And as they prayed and fasted, God was already teaching Peter at Jerusalem of that which should come to pass. For whereas the twelve years which the Lord Christ had enjoined upon him were fulfilled, he showed him a vision after this manner, saying unto him: Peter, that Simon the sorcerer whom thou didst cast out of Judaea, convicting him, hath again come before thee (prevented thee) at Rome. And that shalt thou know shortly (or, and that thou mayest know in few words): for all that did believe in me hath Satan made to fall by his craft and working: whose Power Simon approveth himself to be. But delay thee not: set forth on the morrow, and there shalt thou find a ship ready, setting sail for Italy, and within few days I will show thee my grace which hath in it no grudging. Peter then, admonished by the vision, related it unto the brethren without delay, saying: It is necessary for me to go up unto Rome to fight with the enemy and adversary of the Lord and of our brethren.

2E desceu a Cesareia e embarcou depressa no navio, cuja escada já estava recolhida, não levando provisão alguma consigo. Mas o piloto do navio, cujo nome era Téon, olhou para Pedro e disse: Tudo quanto temos é teu. Pois que recompensa teremos se acolhermos a um homem semelhante a nós, que se acha em situação incerta, e não compartilharmos tudo o que temos contigo? Contudo, tenhamos somente uma próspera viagem. Mas Pedro, dando-lhe graças pelo que oferecia, jejuava enquanto estava no navio, triste de ânimo e consolando-se de novo por haver Deus considerado-o digno de ser ministro em seu serviço.

2And he went down to Caesarea and embarked quickly in the ship, whereof the ladder was already drawn up, not taking any provision with him. But the governor of the ship whose name was Theon looked on Peter and said: Whatsoever we have, all is thine. For what thank have we, if we take in a man like unto ourselves who is in uncertain case (difficulty) and share not all that we have with thee? but only let us have a prosperous voyage. But Peter, giving him thanks for that which he offered, himself fasted while he was in the ship, sorrowful in mind and again consoling himself because God accounted him worthy to be a minister in his service.

3E passados alguns dias, o piloto do navio levantou-se à hora do seu jantar e pediu a Pedro que comesse com ele, e disse-lhe: Ó tu, quem quer que sejas, não te conheço, mas, segundo calculo, tomo-te por servo de Deus. Pois quando governava o meu navio à meia-noite, percebi a voz de um homem vinda do céu, que me dizia: Téon, Téon! E duas vezes chamou-me pelo meu nome e disse-me: Entre os que navegam contigo, seja Pedro grandemente honrado por ti, pois por ele tu e os demais sereis preservados a salvo, sem dano algum, depois de tal travessia qual não esperas. E Pedro creu que Deus se dignaria manifestar a sua providência no mar àqueles que estavam no navio, e dali em diante começou Pedro a anunciar a Téon as maravilhas de Deus, e como o Senhor o havia escolhido de entre os apóstolos, e por qual mister navegava para a Itália; e diariamente comunicava-lhe a palavra de Deus. E considerando-o, percebeu pelo seu proceder que ele era de um mesmo ânimo na fé e um digno ministro.

3And after a few days the governor of the ship rose up at the hour of his dinner and asked Peter to eat with him, and said to him: O thou, whoever thou art, I know thee not, but as I reckon, I take thee for a servant of God. For as I was steering my ship at midnight I perceived the voice of a man from heaven saying to me: Theon, Theon! And twice it called me by my name and said to me: Among them that sail with thee let Peter be greatly honoured by thee, for by him shalt thou and the rest be preserved safe without any hurt after such a course as thou hopest not for. And Peter believed that God would vouchsafe to show his providence upon the sea unto them that were in the ship, and thenceforth began Peter to declare unto Theon the mighty works of God, and how the Lord had chosen him from among the apostles, and for what business he sailed unto Italy: and daily he communicated unto him the word of God. And considering him he perceived by his walk that he was of one mind in the faith and a worthy minister (deacon).

4Ora, havendo calmaria sobre o navio no Ádria, Téon mostrou-o a Pedro, dizendo-lhe: Se me considerares digno, a quem possas batizar com o selo do Senhor, tens uma oportunidade. Pois todos os que estavam no navio haviam adormecido, estando embriagados. E Pedro desceu por uma corda e batizou a Téon em nome do Pai, e do Filho, e do Espírito Santo; e ele subiu da água regozijando-se com grande alegria, e Pedro também se alegrou porque Deus havia julgado a Téon digno do seu nome. E aconteceu que, tendo Téon sido batizado, apareceu no mesmo lugar um jovem resplandecente e formoso, dizendo-lhes: Paz seja convosco. E imediatamente Pedro e Téon subiram e entraram na câmara; e Pedro tomou pão e deu graças ao Senhor, que o havia reputado digno de seu santo ministério, e por ter o jovem aparecido a eles, dizendo: Paz seja convosco. E disse: Tu, que és o melhor e o único santo, foste tu quem nos apareceu, ó Deus Jesus Cristo, e em teu nome foi este homem agora lavado e selado com o teu santo selo. Portanto, em teu nome ministro-lhe a tua eucaristia, para que seja o teu servo perfeito e irrepreensível para sempre.

4Now when there was a calm upon the ship in Hadria (the Adriatic), Theon showed it to Peter, saying unto him: If thou wilt account me worthy, whom thou mayest baptize with the seal of the Lord thou hast an opportunity. For all that were in the ship had fallen asleep, being drunken. And Peter went down by a rope and baptized Theon in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost: and he came up out of the water rejoicing with great joy, and Peter also was glad because God had accounted Theon worthy of his name. Arid it came to pass when Theon was baptized, there appeared in the same place a youth shining and beautiful, saying unto them: Peace be unto you. And immediately Peter and Theon went up and entered into the cabin; and Peter took bread and gave thanks unto the Lord which had accounted him worthy of his holy ministry, and for that the youth had appeared unto them, saying: Peace be unto you. And he said: Thou best and alone holy one, it is thou that hast appeared unto us, O God Jesu Christ, and in thy name hath this man now been washed and sealed with thy holy seal. Therefore in thy name do I impart unto him thine eucharist, that he may be thy perfect servant without blame for ever.

5E enquanto banqueteavam e se regozijavam no Senhor, subitamente veio um vento, não impetuoso, mas brando, à proa do navio, e não cessou durante seis dias e outras tantas noites, até que chegaram a Putéolos.

5And as they feasted and rejoiced in the Lord, suddenly there came a wind, not vehement but moderate, at the ship's prow, and ceased not for six days and as many nights, until they came unto Puteoli.
