1E Noé gerou os seus três filhos durante os primeiros cem anos em que trabalhou na arca.

1And Noah begat his three sons, during the first hundred years he worked at the ark.

2Durante estes cem anos ele não comeu alimento de onde brotasse sangue; os calçados dos seus pés não foram mudados, nem se desgastaram, nem envelheceram.

2During these hundred years he ate no food, whence blood flows; the shoes on his feet were neither changed, nor worn, nor grown old.

3Durante estes cem anos também não mudou as vestes de sobre o seu corpo, e elas não se desgastaram minimamente;

3During these hundred years also, he did not change his garments from off him, neither did they wear out, in the least;

4ele não mudou o bordão na sua mão, nem o pano sobre a sua cabeça envelheceu; e os cabelos da sua cabeça não aumentaram nem diminuíram.

4he did not change the staff in his hand, nor did the cloth about his head grow old; and the hair of his head neither increased nor grew less.

5Quanto a esses três filhos de Noé, o primeiro deles era Sem;

5As to those three sons of Noah, the first of them is Shem;

6o segundo era Cão; e o terceiro era Jafé.

6the next is Ham; and the third is Japhet.

7Eles tomaram esposas dentre as filhas de Matusalém, conforme nos disseram os sábios intérpretes e como está escrito no primeiro livro sagrado dos gregos.

7They married wives from among the daughters of Methuselah; as the wise interpreters have told us; as it is written in the first sacred book of the Greeks.

8A vida também de Lameque, pai de Noé, foi de 553 anos; e quando ele se aproximou da morte, chamou a si seu pai Matusalém e seu filho Noé,

8The life also of Lamech, Noah's father, was 553 years; and when he drew nigh unto death, he called unto him his father Methuselah and his son Noah,

9e chorou diante de seu pai Matusalém e disse-lhe: Despede-me, ó meu pai, e abençoa-me.

9and he wept before his father Methuselah and said unto him, "Dismiss me, O my father, and bless me."

10Então Matusalém abençoou a seu filho Lameque e disse: Nenhum de todos os nossos pais morreu antes de seu pai, mas o pai morria antes do filho, para que houvesse o filho para sepultá-lo na terra.

10Then Methuselah blessed his son Lamech, and said, "Not one of all our fathers died before his father, yet the father died before his son, in order that there should be his son to bury him in the earth.

11Agora, porém, ó meu filho, tu morres antes de mim, e eu beberei o cálice de tristeza por tua causa, antes de eu sair da carne.

11Now, however, O my son, thou diest before me, and I shall drink the cup of sorrow on thy account, ere I go out of the flesh."

12Doravante, ó meu filho, eis que o mundo mudou, e a ordem das mortes dos homens foi alterada:

12Henceforth, O my son, behold the world is changed, and the order of deaths of men is changed:

13pois a partir de hoje o filho morrerá antes de seu pai; e o pai não se alegrará no seu filho, nem se satisfará com ele.

13for from today the son shall die before his father; and the father shall not rejoice in his son, nor be satisfied with him.

14Assim também o filho não se satisfará com seu pai, nem se alegrará nele.

14So also shall the son not be satisfied with his father, nor rejoice in him."

15Então Lameque morreu, e eles o embalsamaram e o depositaram na Caverna dos Tesouros.

15Then Lamech died, and they embalmed him, and laid him in the Cave of Treasures.

16A sua morte ocorreu sete anos antes de vir o Dilúvio; e seu pai Matusalém e seu filho Noé permaneceram sozinhos na Montanha Sagrada.

16His death took place seven years before the Flood came; and his father Methuselah and his son Noah remained alone on the Holy Mountain.

17Contudo, Noé descia todos os dias para trabalhar na arca, e subia ao entardecer.

17Yet Noah went down every day to work at the ark, and came up at eventide.

18E ele instruiu seus filhos e as esposas deles a não descerem após ele, e a não terem convivência com os filhos de Caim.

18And he instructed his sons and their wives not to come down after him, and not to hold intercourse with the children of Cain.

19Pois Noé estava apreensivo por seus filhos, e dizia no seu íntimo: Eles são jovens e poderiam ser vencidos pela paixão.

19For Noah was anxious about his sons, and said in his mind, "They are young and might be overcome by passion."

20Por isso ele descia à noite; e dava instruções ao velho Matusalém acerca deles.

20So he went down by night; and gave old Methuselah directions about them.
