1 Adão e Eva 29

1Mas quando o Deus misericordioso viu que Satanás desejava matar a Adão com os seus muitos ardis, e viu que Adão era manso e sem dolo, falou Deus a Satanás com grande voz, e o amaldiçoou.

1But when the merciful God saw that Satan wished to kill Adam with his many tricks, and saw that Adam was meek and without guile, God spoke to Satan in a loud voice, and cursed him.

2Então ele e as suas hostes fugiram, e Adão e Eva permaneceram de pé no cume do monte; de lá avistaram abaixo de si o vasto mundo, bem alto sobre o qual estavam. Mas não viram nada daquela hoste que vez após vez estivera junto deles.

2Then he and his hosts fled, and Adam and Eve remained standing on the top of the mountain, from there they saw below them the wide world, high above which they were. But they saw none of the host which time after time were by them.

3Choraram, tanto Adão como Eva, diante de Deus, e suplicaram-Lhe perdão.

3They cried, both Adam and Eve, before God, and begged for forgiveness of Him.

4Veio então a Palavra de Deus a Adão, e disse-lhe: Sabe tu e entende acerca deste Satanás, que procura enganar-te a ti e aos teus descendentes depois de ti.

4Then came the Word from God to Adam, and said to him, "Know you and understand concerning this Satan, that he seeks to deceive you and your descendants after you."

5E Adão chorou diante do Senhor Deus, e rogou-Lhe e Lhe suplicou que lhe desse algo do jardim, como sinal para si, no qual se consolasse.

5And Adam cried before the Lord God, and begged and prayed to Him to give him something from the garden, as a token to him, wherein to be comforted.

6E Deus atendeu ao pensamento de Adão, e enviou o anjo Miguel até o mar que chega à Índia, para tirar de lá varas de ouro e trazê-las a Adão.

6And God considered Adam's thought, and sent the angel Michael as far as the sea that reaches India, to take from there golden rods and bring them to Adam.

7Isso fez Deus em Sua sabedoria a fim de que essas varas de ouro, estando com Adão na caverna, resplandecessem com luz na noite ao redor dele, e dessem fim ao seu pavor da escuridão.

7This did God in His wisdom in order that these golden rods, being with Adam in the cave, should shine forth with light in the night around him, and put an end to his fear of the darkness.

8Desceu então o anjo Miguel por ordem de Deus, tomou as varas de ouro, como Deus lhe havia ordenado, e as trouxe a Deus.

8Then the angel Michael went down by God's order, took golden rods, as God had commanded him, and brought them to God.
