1Então o sumo sacerdote Simão, dobrando os joelhos diante do santuário e estendendo as mãos com calma dignidade, orou assim:

1Then the high priest Simon, bending his knees before the sanctuary and extending his hands with calm dignity, prayed thus:

2Senhor, Senhor, Rei dos céus e Senhor de toda a criação, Santo entre os santos, único Soberano, Todo-Poderoso, presta atenção a nós que somos oprimidos por este homem ímpio e profano.

2Lord, Lord, King of the heavens and Ruler of all creation, Holy among the holy ones, sole Sovereign, Almighty, pay attention to us who are oppressed by this impious and profane man.

3És tu, ó Criador de todas as coisas e Senhor de tudo, que és justo em governar tudo com retidão.

3You are, O Creator of all things and Lord of all, who are righteous in governing all things with righteousness.

4Tu julgas os que fazem qualquer coisa com arrogância e orgulho.

4You judge those who do anything with arrogance and pride.

5Tu destruíste aqueles que anteriormente praticaram injustiça, entre os quais estavam gigantes que confiavam em sua força.

5You destroyed those who formerly practiced injustice, among whom were giants who trusted in their strength.

6Tu destruíste os habitantes de Sodoma, que se distinguiam pela arrogância, expondo-os como exemplo às gerações futuras.

6You destroyed the inhabitants of Sodom, who distinguished themselves by their arrogance, exposing them as an example to future generations.

7Tu puseste à prova o arrogante Faraó, que escravizou teu povo santo, castigando-o com muitas e diversas pragas.

7You put to the test the arrogant Pharaoh, who enslaved your holy people, punishing him with many and various plagues.

8Quando ele perseguiu a Israel com carros e numeroso exército, tu o submergiste no mar.

8When he pursued Israel with chariots and a numerous army, you submerged him in the sea.

9Mas os que confiaram em ti, Soberano de toda a criação, fizeste passar em segurança.

9But those who trusted in you, Sovereign of all creation, you caused to pass through safely.

10E eles, vendo as obras de tuas mãos, te louvaram, ó Todo-Poderoso.

10And they, seeing the works of your hands, praised you, O Almighty.

11Tu, ó Rei, quando criaste esta terra imensurável, escolheste esta cidade e santificaste este lugar para tua glória.

11You, O King, when you created this immeasurable earth, chose this city and sanctified this place for your glory.

12Tu que de nada precisas, te comprazeste em que o templo de tua glória permanecesse neste lugar.

12You who need nothing, were pleased that the temple of your glory should remain in this place.

13Tu o consagraste para teu santo nome, mesmo que precisasses de nada.

13You consecrated it for your holy name, even though you needed nothing.

14E agora, Santo entre os santos, para sempre bendito, liberta-nos desta angústia.

14And now, Holy among the holy ones, forever blessed, deliver us from this anguish.

15Porque, se isso acontecer por causa de nossos pecados, nós nos purificamos.

15Because, if this happens because of our sins, we purify ourselves.

16Não nos entregues, porém, nas mãos dos inimigos estrangeiros.

16Do not, however, deliver us into the hands of foreign enemies.

17Não nos castigue através deste povo insolente.

17Do not punish us through this insolent people.

18Se praticamos a impiedade, que sejamos castigados por tua mão misericordiosa.

18If we have practiced impiety, may we be punished by your merciful hand.

19Não nos abandones à profanação deste ímpio e orgulhoso.

19Do not abandon us to the profanation of this impious and proud one.

20Que os pagãos não exultem e digam: Nem seu Deus os salvou.

20Let not the pagans exult and say: Not even their God saved them.

21Tu que tudo podes e dominas todas as coisas, não ignores agora nossa súplica.

21You who can do all things and dominate all things, do not now ignore our supplication.

22Com o olhar fixo no céu, e com o coração em prece, ele terminou sua oração.

22With his gaze fixed on heaven, and with his heart in prayer, he finished his prayer.

23Todo o povo, juntamente com os sacerdotes, clamou ao Deus do céu.

23All the people, together with the priests, cried out to the God of heaven.

24O que aconteceu a seguir causou grande espanto em todos os presentes.

24What happened next caused great astonishment to all present.

25Filópator foi acometido de um forte tremor e ficou paralisado.

25Philopator was seized with a strong tremor and became paralyzed.

26Seus companheiros, vendo-o prostrado, temeram que ele morresse.

26His companions, seeing him prostrate, feared that he would die.

27Apressadamente o levaram para fora.

27Hastily they carried him out.

28Passado algum tempo, recuperou-se, mas não cedeu ao arrependimento.

28After some time, he recovered, but did not yield to repentance.

29Partiu proferindo graves ameaças.

29He departed uttering grave threats.

30Chegando ao Egito, aumentou sua maldade, aconselhado por seus amigos que haviam abandonado toda justiça.

30Arriving in Egypt, he increased his wickedness, counseled by his friends who had abandoned all justice.
