Tito 3

1Admoesta-os a que se sujeitem aos principados e potestades, que lhes obedeçam, e estejam preparados para toda a boa obra;

1Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

2Que a ninguém infamem, nem sejam contenciosos, mas modestos, mostrando toda a mansidão para com todos os homens.

2To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, {but} gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

3Porque também nós éramos noutro tempo insensatos, desobedientes, extraviados, servindo a várias concupiscências e deleites, vivendo em malícia e inveja, odiosos, odiando-nos uns aos outros.

3For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, {and} hating one another.

4Mas quando apareceu a benignidade e amor de Deus, nosso Salvador, para com os homens,

4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, {love: or, pity}

5Não pelas obras de justiça que houvéssemos feito, mas segundo a sua misericórdia, nos salvou pela lavagem da regeneração e da renovação do Espírito Santo,

5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6Que abundantemente ele derramou sobre nós por Jesus Cristo nosso Salvador;

6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; {abundantly: Gr. richly}

7Para que, sendo justificados pela sua graça, sejamos feitos herdeiros segundo a esperança da vida eterna.

7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

8Fiel é a palavra, e isto quero que deveras afirmes, para que os que crêem em Deus procurem aplicar-se às boas obras; estas coisas são boas e proveitosas aos homens.

8{This is} a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

9Mas não entres em questões loucas, genealogias e contendas, e nos debates acerca da lei; porque são coisas inúteis e vãs.

9But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

10Ao homem hereje, depois de uma e outra admoestação, evita-o,

10A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

11Sabendo que esse tal está pervertido, e peca, estando já em si mesmo condenado.

11Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

12Quando te enviar Ártemas, ou Tíquico, procura vir ter comigo a Nicópolis; porque deliberei invernar ali.

12When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

13Acompanha com muito cuidado Zenas, doutor da lei, e Apolo, para que nada lhes falte.

13Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

14E os nossos aprendam também a aplicar-se às boas obras, nas coisas necessárias, para que não sejam infrutuosos.

14And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful. {maintain...: or, profess honest trades}

15Saúdam-te todos os que estão comigo. Saúda tu os que nos amam na fé. A graça seja com vós todos. Amém.

15All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace {be} with you all. Amen. «{It was written to Titus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Cretians, from Nicopolis of Macedonia.}»
