Tiago 4

1De onde vêm as guerras e pelejas entre vós? Porventura não vêm disto, a saber, dos vossos deleites, que nos vossos membros guerreiam?

1From whence {come} wars and fightings among you? {come they} not hence, {even} of your lusts that war in your members? {fightings: or, brawlings} {lusts: or, pleasures}

2Cobiçais, e nada tendes; matais, e sois invejosos, e nada podeis alcançar; combateis e guerreais, e nada tendes, porque não pedis.

2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

3Pedis, e não recebeis, porque pedis mal, para o gastardes em vossos deleites.

3Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume {it} upon your lusts. {lusts: or, pleasures}

4Adúlteros e adúlteras, não sabeis vós que a amizade do mundo é inimizade contra Deus? Portanto, qualquer que quiser ser amigo do mundo constitui-se inimigo de Deus.

4Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

5Ou cuidais vós que em vão diz a Escritura: O Espírito que em nós habita tem ciúmes?

5Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? {to envy: or, enviously?}

6Antes, ele dá maior graça. Portanto diz: Deus resiste aos soberbos, mas dá graça aos humildes.

6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7Sujeitai-vos, pois, a Deus, resisti ao diabo, e ele fugirá de vós.

7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8Chegai-vos a Deus, e ele se chegará a vós. Alimpai as mãos, pecadores; e, vós de duplo ânimo, purificai os corações.

8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse {your} hands, {ye} sinners; and purify {your} hearts, {ye} double minded.

9Senti as vossas misérias, e lamentai e chorai; converta-se o vosso riso em pranto, e o vosso gozo em tristeza.

9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and {your} joy to heaviness.

10Humilhai-vos perante o Senhor, e ele vos exaltará.

10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11Irmãos, não faleis mal uns dos outros. Quem fala mal de um irmão, e julga a seu irmão, fala mal da lei, e julga a lei; e, se tu julgas a lei, já não és observador da lei, mas juiz.

11Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of {his} brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12Há só um legislador que pode salvar e destruir. Tu, porém, quem és, que julgas a outrem?

12There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

13Eia agora vós, que dizeis: Hoje, ou amanhã, iremos a tal cidade, e lá passaremos um ano, e contrataremos, e ganharemos;

13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14Digo-vos que não sabeis o que acontecerá amanhã. Porque, que é a vossa vida? É um vapor que aparece por um pouco, e depois se desvanece.

14Whereas ye know not what {shall be} on the morrow. For what {is} your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. {It...: or, For it is}

15Em lugar do que devíeis dizer: Se o Senhor quiser, e se vivermos, faremos isto ou aquilo.

15For that ye {ought} to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16Mas agora vos gloriais em vossas presunções; toda a glória tal como esta é maligna.

16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17Aquele, pois, que sabe fazer o bem e não o faz, comete pecado.

17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth {it} not, to him it is sin.
