Testamento de Jó 9

1E quando eu falei assim com eles, eis que minha esposa Sitis veio correndo, vestida com trapos do serviço do mestre por quem ela foi empregada como escrava, embora ela tivesse sido proibida de sair, para que os reis, ao vê-la, pudessem levá-la como cativa.

1And when I spoke thus to them, behold, there my wife Sitis came running, dressed in rags from the service of the master by whom she was employed as slave though she had been forbidden to leave, lest the kings, on seeing her, might take her as captive.

2E quando ela chegou, ela se jogou prostrada aos pés deles, chorando e dizendo: ‘‘Lembrem-se, Elifaz e vocês outros amigos, de como eu fui uma vez com vocês, e como mudei, como agora estou vestida para conhecê-los.’’

2And when she came, she threw herself prostrate to their feet, crying and saying: ‘‘Remember, Eliphaz and ye other friends, what I was once with you, and how I have changed, how I am now dressed to meet you.’’

3Então os reis irromperam em grande pranto e, em dupla perplexidade, ficaram em silêncio. Mas Elifaz pegou seu manto roxo e lançou-o sobre ela para se envolver com ele.

3Then the kings broke forth in great weeping and, being in double perplexity, they kept silent. But Eliphaz took his purple mantle and cast it about her to wrap herself up with it.

4Mas ela perguntou-lhe dizendo: "Peço-vos como favor, meus Senhores, que ordeneis aos vossos soldados que cavem entre as ruínas da nossa casa que caiu sobre os meus filhos, para que os seus ossos pudessem ser levados em perfeito estado aos túmulos.

4But she asked him saying: "I ask as favor of you, my Lords, that you order your soldiers that they should dig among the ruins of our house which fell upon my children, so that their bones could be brought in a perfect state to the tombs.

5Pois como não temos, devido ao nosso infortúnio, nenhum poder, e assim podemos pelo menos ver seus ossos.

5For as we have, owing to our misfortune, no power at all, and so we may at least see their bones.

6Pois tenho como um bruto o sentimento maternal das feras selvagens de que meus dez filhos deveriam ter morrido em um dia e nenhum deles poderia dar um enterro decente.

6For have I like a brute the motherly feeling of wild beasts that my ten children should have perished on one day and not to one of them could I give a decent burial.’’

7E os reis ordenaram que fossem desenterradas as ruínas da minha casa. Mas eu proibi isso, dizendo: “Não se preocupe em vão; pois meus filhos não serão encontrados, pois estão sob a guarda de seu Criador e Governante.''

7And the kings gave order that the ruins of my house should be dug up. But I prohibited it, saying: ‘‘Do not go to the trouble in vain; for my children will not be found, for they are in the keeping of their Maker and Ruler.’’

8E os reis responderam e disseram: “Quem negará que ele está louco e delirando?

8And the kings answered and said: "Who will gainsay that he is out of his mind and raves?

9Pois embora desejemos trazer de volta os ossos de seus filhos, ele nos proíbe de fazê-lo, dizendo: ‘Eles foram levados e colocados sob a guarda de seu Criador.’ Portanto, prove-nos a verdade.”

9For while we desire to bring the bones of his children back, he forbids us to do so saying: ‘They have been taken and placed in the keeping of their Maker.’ Therefore prove unto us the truth."

10Mas eu lhes disse: “Levante-me para que eu possa ficar de pé”, e eles me levantaram, segurando meus braços de ambos os lados.

10But I said to them: "Raise me that I may stand up," and they lifted me, holding up my arms from both sides.

11E fiquei de pé e pronunciei primeiro o louvor a Deus e depois da oração disse-lhes: ‘‘Olhem com os olhos para o Oriente.’’

11And I stood upright, and pronounced first the praise of God and after the prayer I said to them: ‘‘Look with your eyes to the East.’’

12E eles olharam e viram meus filhos com coroas perto da glória do Rei, o Governante do céu.

12And they looked and saw my children with crowns near the glory of the King, the Ruler of heaven.

13E quando minha esposa Sitis viu isso, ela caiu no chão e se prostrou diante de Deus, dizendo: ‘‘Agora eu sei que minha memória permanece com o Senhor.’’

13And when my wife Sitis saw this, she fell to the ground and prostrated [herself] before God, saying: ‘‘Now I know that my memory remains with the Lord.’’

14E depois de ter falado isso, e a noite chegou, ela foi para a cidade, de volta para o senhor a quem ela servia como escrava, e deitou-se na manjedoura do gado e morreu ali de exaustão.

14And after she had spoken this, and the evening came, she went to the city, back to the master whom she served as slave, and lay herself down at the manger of the cattle and died there from exhaustion.

15E quando seu despótico mestre a procurou e não a encontrou, ele chegou ao rebanho de seus rebanhos e lá a viu estendida sobre a manjedoura, morta, enquanto todos os animais ao redor choravam por ela.

15And when her despotic master searched for her and did not find her, he came to the fold of his herds, and there he saw her stretched out upon the manger dead, while all the animals around were crying about her.

16E todos os que a viam choravam e lamentavam, e o clamor estendeu-se por toda a cidade.

16And all who saw her wept and lamented, and the cry extended throughout the whole city.

17E o povo a trouxe, envolveu-a e sepultou-a perto da casa que havia caído sobre seus filhos.

17And the people brought her down and wrapped her up and buried her by the house which had fallen upon her children.

18E os pobres da cidade fizeram um grande luto por ela e disseram: “Eis esta Sitis cujo semelhante em nobreza e glória não é encontrado em nenhuma mulher.

18And the poor of the city made a great mourning for her and said: "Behold this Sitis whose like in nobility and in glory is not found in any woman. Alas! she was not found worthy of a proper tomb!’’

20E quando eu lhes falei assim, eis que minha esposa Sitis veio correndo, vestida com trapos. do serviço do senhor por quem ela foi empregada como escrava, embora tivesse sido proibida de partir, para que os reis, ao vê-la, não a levassem como cativa.

28E os reis responderam e disseram: “Quem negará que ele está louco e delirando?

28And the kings answered and said: "Who will gainsay that he is out of his mind and raves?

29Pois embora desejemos trazer de volta os ossos dos seus filhos, ele proíbe-nos de fazê-lo, dizendo: ‘Eles foram levados e colocados aos cuidados do seu Criador’. Portanto prova-nos a verdade."

29For while we desire to bring the bones of his children back, he forbids us to do so saying: ‘They have been taken and placed in the keeping of their Maker’. Therefore prove unto us the truth."

33And when my wife Sitis saw this, she fell to the ground and prostrated [herself] before God, saying: ‘‘Now I know that my memory remains with the Lord.’’

34E depois de ter falado isso, e a noite chegou, ela foi para a cidade, de volta para o senhor a quem ela servia como escrava, e deitou-se na manjedoura do gado e morreu ali de exaustão.

34And after she had spoken this, and the evening came, she went to the city, back to the master whom she served as slave, and lay herself down at the manger of the cattle and died there from exhaustion.

35E quando seu despótico mestre a procurou e não a encontrou, ele chegou ao rebanho de seus rebanhos e lá a viu estendida sobre a manjedoura, morta, enquanto todos os animais ao redor choravam por ela.

35And when her despotic master searched for her and did not find her, he came to the fold of his herds, and there he saw her stretched out upon the manger dead, while all the animals around were crying about her.

36E todos os que a viam choravam e lamentavam, e o clamor estendeu-se por toda a cidade.

36And all who saw her wept and lamented, and the cry extended throughout the whole city.

37E o povo a trouxe, envolveu-a e sepultou-a perto da casa que havia caído sobre seus filhos.

37And the people brought her down and wrapped her up and buried her by the house which had fallen upon her children.

38E os pobres da cidade fizeram um grande luto por ela e disseram: “Eis esta Sitis cujo semelhante em nobreza e glória não é encontrado em nenhuma mulher.

38And the poor of the city made a great mourning for her and said: "Behold this Sitis whose like in nobility and in glory is not found in any woman. Alas! she was not found worthy of a proper tomb!’’
