Testamento de Jó 8

1Quando falei assim com eles, Elifaz ficou zangado e disse aos outros amigos: "Com que propósito viemos aqui com nossos anfitriões para consolá-lo? Eis que ele nos repreende. Portanto, retornemos aos nossos países.

1When I spoke thus to them, Eliphaz became angry and said to the other friends: "For what purpose is it that we have come here with our hosts to comfort him? Behold, he upbraids us. Therefore let us return to our countries.

2Este homem está sentado aqui na miséria, comido por vermes em meio a um insuportável estado de putrefação, e ainda assim ele desafia sua salvação: 'Os reinos perecerão e seus governantes, mas meu Reino, diz ele, durará para sempre.'"

2This man sits here in misery, worm-eaten amidst an unbearable state of putrefaction, and yet he challenges its saving: 'Kingdoms shall perish and their rulers, but my Kingdom, says he, shall last forever.'"

3Elifaz, então, levantou-se em grande comoção e, afastando-se deles com grande fúria, disse: "Eu vou daqui. Na verdade viemos confortá-lo, mas ele nos declara guerra em vista de nossos exércitos."

3Eliphaz, then, rose in great commotion, and, turning away from them in great fury, said: "I go hence. We have indeed come to comfort him, but he declares war to us in view of our armies."

4Mas então Baldad agarrou-o pela mão e disse: “Não se deve falar assim com um homem aflito, e especialmente com alguém atingido por tantas pragas.

4But then Baldad seized him by the hand and said: "Not thus ought one to speak to an afflicted man, and especially to one stricken down with so many plagues.

5Eis que nós, estando de boa saúde, não ousamos aproximar-nos dele por causa do odor desagradável, exceto com a ajuda de bastante aroma perfumado. Mas você, Elifaz, está esquecido de tudo isso.

5Behold, we, being in good health, dared not approach him on account of the offensive odor, except with the help of plenty of fragrant aroma. But thou, Eliphaz, art forgetful of all this.

6Deixe-me falar claramente. Sejamos magnânimos e aprendamos qual é a causa. Ele não deveria, ao se lembrar de seus antigos dias de felicidade, enlouquecer mentalmente?

6Let me speak plainly. Let us be magnanimous and learn what is the cause. Must he, in remembering his former days of happiness, not become mad in his mind?

7Quem não deveria ficar totalmente perplexo ao ver-se assim cair em infortúnios e pragas? Mas deixe-me chegar perto dele para descobrir por que motivo ele está assim.

7Who should not be altogether perplexed seeing himself thus lapse into misfortune and plagues? But let me step near him that I may find by what cause he is thus."

8E Baldad levantou-se e se aproximou de mim dizendo: "Você é Jó?" e ele disse: "Seu coração ainda está bem?"

8And Baldad rose and approached me saying: "Art thou Job?" and he said: "Is thy heart still in good keeping?"

9E eu disse: “Não me apeguei às coisas terrenas, pois a terra e todos os que nela habitam são instáveis. Mas o meu coração se apega ao céu, porque não há problemas no céu”.

9And I said: "I did not hold fast to the earthly things, since the earth with all that inhabit it is unstable. But my heart holds fast to the heaven, because there is no trouble in heaven."

10Então Baldad voltou e disse: "Sabemos que a terra é instável, pois ela muda de acordo com a estação. Às vezes está em estado de paz, e às vezes está em estado de guerra. Mas do céu ouvimos que está perfeitamente estável.

10Then Baldad rejoined and said: "We know that the earth is unstable, for it changes according to season. At times it is in a state of peace, and at times it is in a state of war. But of the heaven we hear that it is perfectly steady.

11Mas você está realmente em um estado de calma? Portanto, deixe-me perguntar e falar, e quando você me responder à minha primeira palavra, terei uma segunda pergunta a fazer, e se você responder novamente com palavras bem definidas, será manifesto que seu coração não está desequilibrado.

11But art thou truly in a state of calmness? Therefore let me ask and speak, and when thou answerest me to my first word, I shall have a second question to ask, and if again thou answerest in well-set words, it will be manifest that thy heart has not been unbalanced."

12E eu disse: “Em que você deposita sua esperança?” E eu disse: “Sobre o Deus vivo”.

12And I said: "Upon what dost thou set thy hope?" And I said: "Upon the living God."

13E ele me disse: “Quem te privou de tudo o que você possuía? E quem te infligiu essas pragas?” E eu disse: “Deus”.

13And he said to me: "Who deprived thee of all thou didst possess? And who inflicted thee with these plagues?" And I said: "God."

14E ele disse: “Se você ainda coloca sua esperança em Deus, como Ele pode errar no julgamento, tendo trazido sobre você essas pragas e infortúnios, e tendo tirado de você todos os seus bens?

14And he said: "If thou still placest thy hope upon God, how can He do wrong in judgment, having brought upon thee these plagues and misfortunes, and having taken from thee all thy possessions?

15E já que Ele os tomou, é claro que Ele não te deu nada. Nenhum rei desonrará o seu soldado que o serviu bem como guarda-costas."

15And since He has taken these, it is clear that He has given thee nothing. No king will disgrace his soldier who has served him well as body-guard."

16E eu respondi dizendo: “Quem entende as profundezas do Senhor e da Sua sabedoria para poder acusar Deus de injustiça?”

16And I answered saying: "Who understands the depths of the Lord and of His wisdom to be able to accuse God of injustice?"

17E Baldad disse: “Responda-me, ó Jó, a isto. Novamente eu te digo: ‘Se você está em um estado de razão calma, ensine-me se você tem sabedoria:

17And Baldad said: "Answer me, o Job, to this. Again I say to thee: ‘If thou art in a state of calm reason, teach me if thou hast wisdom:

18Por que vemos o sol nascer no Leste e se pôr no Oeste? E novamente, ao acordar pela manhã, nós o encontramos subindo no Oriente? Diga-me o que você pensa sobre isso.'"

18Why do we see the sun rise in the East and set in the West? And again when rising in the morning we find him rise in the East? Tell me thy thought about this.’"

19Então eu disse: “Por que trairei (balbuciando) os poderosos mistérios de Deus? E deveria minha boca tropeçar ao revelar coisas pertencentes ao Mestre? Nunca!

19Then said I: "Why shall I betray (babble forth) the mighty mysteries of God? And should my mouth stumble in revealing things belonging to the Master? Never!

20Quem somos nós para nos intrometermos em assuntos relativos ao mundo superior enquanto somos apenas de carne, ou melhor, terra e cinzas!

20Who are we that we should pry into matters concerning the upper world while we are only of flesh, nay, earth and ashes!

21Para que você saiba que meu coração está são, ouça o que lhe peço:

21In order that you know that my heart is sound, hear what I ask you:

22Através do estômago vem a comida, e a água você bebe pela boca, e então ela flui pela mesma garganta, e quando os dois descem para se tornarem excrementos, eles novamente se separam; quem efetua esta separação?"

22Through the stomach cometh food, and water you drink through the mouth, and then it flows through the same throat, and when the two go down to become excrement, they again part; who effects this separation?"

23E Baldad disse: “Não sei”. E eu me juntei e disse a ele: “Se você não entende nem mesmo as saídas do corpo, como poderá entender os circuitos celestes?”

23And Baldad said: "I do not know." And I rejoined and said to him: "If thou dost not understand even the exits of the body, how canst thou understand the celestial circuits?"

24Então Sophar voltou e disse: "Não perguntamos sobre nossos próprios assuntos, mas desejamos saber se você está em bom estado, e eis que vemos que sua razão não foi abalada.

24Then Sophar rejoined and said: "We do not inquire after our own affairs, but we desire to know whether thou art in a sound state, and behold, we see that thy reason has not been shaken.

25O que agora você deseja que façamos por você? Eis que viemos aqui e trouxemos os médicos de três reis, e se desejares, poderás ser curado por eles."

25What now dost thou wish that we should do for thee? Behold, we have come here and brought the physicians of three kings, and if thou wishest, thou mayest be cured by them."

26Mas eu respondi e disse: “Minha cura e minha restauração vêm de Deus, o Criador dos médicos”.

26But I answered and said: "My cure and my restoration cometh from God, the Maker of physicians."
