Testamento de Jó 5

1E quando Satanás viu que não poderia me desesperar, foi e pediu meu corpo ao Senhor para me infligir a praga, pois o Maligno não suportava minha paciência.

1And when Satan saw that he could not put me to despair, he went and asked my body of the Lord in order to inflict plague on me, for the Evil one could not bear my patience.

2Então o Senhor me entregou em suas mãos para usar meu corpo como quisesse, mas não lhe deu poder sobre minha alma.

2Then the Lord delivered me into his hands to use my body as he wanted, but he gave him no power over my soul.

3E ele veio até mim quando eu estava sentado no meu trono, ainda de luto pelos meus filhos.

3And he came to me as I was sitting on my throne still mourning over my children.

4E ele parecia um grande furacão e virou meu trono e me jogou no chão.

4And he resembled a great hurricane and turned over my throne and threw me upon the ground.

5E continuei deitado no chão por três horas, e ele me atingiu com uma praga dura, do topo da minha cabeça até a ponta dos pés.

5And I continued lying on the floor for three hours, and he smote me with a hard plague from the top of my head to the toes of my feet.

6E deixei a cidade com grande terror e tristeza e sentei-me num monturo, meu corpo estava comido por vermes.

6And I left the city in great terror and woe and sat down upon a dunghill my body being worm-eaten.

7E molhei a terra com a umidade do meu corpo dolorido, pois a matéria escorria do meu corpo e muitos vermes o cobriram.

7And I wet the earth with the moistness of my sore body, for matter flowed off my body, and many worms covered it.

8E quando um único verme saiu do meu corpo, eu o coloquei de volta, dizendo: "Permaneça no local onde você foi colocado até que Aquele que o enviou lhe ordene em outro lugar."

8And when a single worm crept off my body, I put it back saying: "Remain on the spot where thou hast been placed until He who hath sent thee will order thee elsewhere."

9Assim, aguentei durante sete anos, sentado num monte de esterco, fora da cidade, enquanto era assolado pela peste.

9Thus I endured for seven years, sitting on a dung-hill outside of the city while being plague-stricken.

10E vi com meus próprios olhos meus tão esperados filhos [carregados pelos anjos ao céu].

10And I saw with mine own eyes my longed-for children [carried by angels to heaven].

11E minha humilde esposa, que havia sido trazida para sua câmara nupcial com tanto luxo e com lanceiros como guarda-costas, eu a vi fazer o trabalho de carregador de água como uma escrava na casa de um homem comum, a fim de ganhar algum pão e trazê-lo para mim.

11And my humbled wife who had been brought to her bridal chamber in such great luxuriousness and with spearmen as body-guards, I saw her do a water-carrier's work like a slave in the house of a common man in order to win some bread and bring it to me.

12E em minha grande aflição eu disse: "Oh, que esses governantes fanfarrões da cidade, que eu não teria pensado serem iguais aos meus cães pastores, deveriam agora empregar minha esposa como serva!"

12And in my sore affliction I said: "Oh that these braggart city rulers whom I would not have thought to be equal with my shepherd dogs should now employ my wife as servant!"

13E depois disso tomei coragem novamente.

13And after this I took courage again.

14No entanto, depois disso, eles retiveram até mesmo o pão para que fosse apenas seu próprio alimento.

14Yet afterwards they withheld even the bread that it should only have her own nourishment.

15Mas ela pegou-o e dividiu-o entre mim e ela, dizendo com tristeza: "Ai de mim! Imediatamente ele não poderá mais se alimentar de pão e não poderá ir ao mercado pedir pão aos vendedores de pão para trazê-lo para mim para que ele possa comer."

15But she took it and divided it between herself and me, saying woefully: "Woe to me! Forthwith he may no longer feed on bread, and he cannot go to the market to ask bread of the bread-sellers in order to bring it to me that he may eat."

16E quando Satanás soube disso, ele se disfarçou de vendedor de pão, e foi como se por acaso minha esposa o conhecesse e lhe pedisse pão pensando que era esse tipo de homem.

16And when Satan learned this, he took the guise of a bread-seller, and it was as if by chance that my wife met him and asked him for bread thinking that it was that sort of man.

17Mas Satanás disse a ela: “Dê-me o valor e depois pegue o que quiser”.

17But Satan said to her: "Give me the value, and then take what thou wishest."

18Ao que ela respondeu dizendo: Onde posso conseguir dinheiro? Você não sabe que infortúnio aconteceu comigo. Se você tem pena, mostre-me; se não, você verá.

18Whereupon she answered saying: Where shall I get money? Dost thou not know what misfortune happened to me. If thou hast pity, show it to me; if not, thou shalt see."

19E ele respondeu dizendo: “Se você não merecesse esse infortúnio, não teria sofrido tudo isso.

19And he replied saying: "If you did not deserve this misfortune, you would not have suffered all this.

20Agora, se não tiveres nenhuma moeda de prata na mão, dá-me o cabelo da tua cabeça e leva em troca três pães, para que ali vivas três dias.

20Now, if there is no silver piece in thine hand, give me the hair of thine head and take three loaves of bread for it, so that ye may live on there for three days."

21Então ela disse para si mesma: "Qual é o cabelo da minha cabeça em comparação com o do meu marido faminto?"

21Then she said to herself: "What is the hair of my head in comparison with my starving husband?"

22E então, depois de ter ponderado sobre o assunto, ela lhe disse: “Levante-se e corte meu cabelo”.

22And so after having pondered over the matter, she said to him: "Rise and cut off my hair."

23Então ele pegou uma tesoura e arrancou os cabelos da cabeça dela na presença de todos, e deu-lhe três pães.

23Then he took a pair of scissors and took off the hair of her head in the presence of all, and gave her three loaves of bread.

24Então ela os pegou e trouxe para mim. E Satanás foi atrás dela na estrada, escondendo-se enquanto caminhava e perturbando muito o coração dela.

24Then she took them and brought them to me. And Satan went behind her on the road, hiding himself as he walked and troubling her heart greatly.
