Testamento de Jó 4

1E meus filhos, depois de se encarregarem do serviço, faziam as refeições todos os dias junto com as três irmãs, começando pelo irmão mais velho, e faziam um banquete.

1And my children, after having taken charge of the service, took their meals each day along with their three sisters beginning with the older brother, and made a feast.

2E levantei-me pela manhã e ofereci como oferta pelo pecado por eles cinquenta carneiros e dezenove ovelhas, e o que restou como resíduo foi consagrado aos pobres.

2And I rose in the morning and offered as sin-offering for them fifty rams and nineteen sheep, and what remained as a residue was consecrated to the poor.

3E eu lhes disse: “Tomem isto como resíduo e rezem pelos meus filhos.

3And I said to them: "Take these as residue and pray for my children.

4Talvez meus filhos tenham pecado diante do Senhor, falando com altivez de espírito: Somos filhos deste homem rico. Nossos são todos esses bens; por que deveríamos ser servos dos pobres?

4Perchance my sons have sinned before the Lord, speaking in haughtiness of spirit: We are children of this rich man. Ours are all these goods; why should we be servants of the poor?

5E falando assim com espírito altivo, eles podem ter provocado a ira de Deus, pois o orgulho arrogante é uma abominação diante do Senhor."

5And speaking thus in a haughty spirit they may have provoked the anger of God, for overbearing pride is an abomination before the Lord."

6Então eu trouxe bois como oferendas ao sacerdote no altar, dizendo: “Que meus filhos nunca pensem mal de Deus em seus corações”.

6So I brought oxen as offerings to the priest at the altar saying: "May my children never think evil towards God in their hearts.’’

7Enquanto eu vivia dessa maneira, o Sedutor não suportou ver o bem que eu fiz e exigiu a guerra de Deus contra mim.

7While I lived in this manner, the Seducer could not bear to see the good [I did], and he demanded the warfare of God against me.

8E ele veio até mim cruelmente.

8And he came upon me cruelly.

9Primeiro ele queimou muitas ovelhas, depois os camelos, depois queimou o gado e todos os meus rebanhos; ou foram capturados não apenas por inimigos, mas também por aqueles que receberam benefícios de mim.

9First he burnt up the large number of sheep, then the camels, then he burnt up the cattle and all my herds; or they were captured not only by enemies but also by such as had received benefits from me.

10E os pastores vieram e me anunciaram isso.

10And the shepherds came and announced that to me.

11Mas quando ouvi isso, louvei a Deus e não blasfemei.

11But when I heard it, I gave praise to God and did not blaspheme.

12E quando o Sedutor soube da minha coragem, ele planejou coisas novas contra mim.

12And when the Seducer learned of my fortitude, he plotted new things against me.

13Ele se disfarçou de rei da Pérsia e sitiou minha cidade, e depois de ter liderado todos os que ali estavam, falou-lhes com malícia, dizendo em linguagem arrogante:

13He disguised himself as King of Persia and besieged my city, and after he had led off all that were therein, he spoke to them in malice, saying in boastful language:

14“Este homem, Jó, que obteve todos os bens da terra e não deixou nada para os outros, destruiu e derrubou o templo de Deus.

14"This man Job who has obtained all the goods of the earth and left nothing for others, he has destroyed and torn down the temple of god.

15Portanto, eu lhe retribuirei o que ele fez à casa do grande deus.

15Therefore shall I repay to him what he has done to the house of the great god.

16Agora venha comigo e saquearemos tudo o que resta em sua casa."

16Now come with me and we shall pillage all that is left in his house."

17E eles responderam e disseram-lhe: “Ele tem sete filhos e três filhas.

17And they answered and said to him: "He has seven sons and three daughters.

18Tome cuidado para que eles não fujam para outras terras e se tornem nossos tiranos e então venham sobre nós com força e nos matem.''

18Take heed lest they flee into other lands and they may become our tyrants and then come over us with force and kill us.’’

19E ele disse: Não tenha medo. Seus rebanhos e sua riqueza destruí pelo fogo, e o resto capturei, e eis que seus filhos matarei.

19And he said: Be not at all afraid. His flocks and his wealth have I destroyed by fire, and the rest have I captured, and behold, his children shall I kill."

20E tendo falado assim, ele foi e jogou a casa sobre meus filhos e os matou.

20And having spoken thus, he went and threw the house upon my children and killed them.

21E os meus concidadãos, vendo que o que ele dissera se tornara verdade, vieram e perseguiram-me, e roubaram-me tudo o que havia em minha casa.

21And my fellow-citizens, seeing that what was said by him had become true, came and pursued me, and robbed me of all that was in my house.

22E vi com meus próprios olhos a pilhagem de minha casa, e homens sem cultura e sem honra sentaram-se à minha mesa e em meus sofás, e não pude protestar contra eles.

22And I saw with mine own eyes the pillage of my house, and men without culture and without honor sat at my table and on my couches, and I could not remonstrate against them.

23Pois eu estava exausta como uma mulher com os lombos soltos por uma multidão de dores, lembrando principalmente que esta guerra me havia sido predita pelo Senhor através de Seu anjo.

23For I was exhausted like a woman with her loins let loose from multitude of pains, remembering chiefly that this warfare had been predicted to me by the Lord through His angel.

24E tornei-me como alguém que, ao ver o mar agitado e os ventos adversos, enquanto o carregamento do navio no meio do oceano é muito pesado, lança o fardo ao mar, dizendo:

24And I became like one who, when seeing the rough sea and the adverse winds, while the lading of the vessel in mid-ocean is too heavy, casts the burden into the sea, saying:

25"Desejo destruir tudo isso apenas para poder entrar em segurança na cidade e poder aproveitar o navio resgatado e o melhor de minhas coisas."

25"I wish to destroy all this only in order to come safely into the city so that I may take as profit the rescued ship and the best of my things."

26Assim administrei meus próprios assuntos.

26Thus did I manage my own affairs.

27Mas veio outro mensageiro e anunciou-me a ruína de meus próprios filhos, e fiquei abalado pelo terror.

27But there came another messenger and announced to me the ruin of my own children, and I was shaken with terror.

28E rasguei as minhas vestes e disse: O Senhor deu, o Senhor tomou. Como foi considerado melhor para o Senhor, assim aconteceu. Que o nome do Senhor seja abençoado."

28And I tore my clothes and said: The Lord hath given, the Lord hath taken. As it hath deemed best to the Lord, thus it hath come to be. May the name of the Lord be blessed."
