Testamento de Jó 2

1Depois disso, levantei-me durante a noite e peguei cinquenta escravos e fui ao templo do ídolo e o destruí totalmente.

1After this I rose up in the night and took fifty slaves and went to the temple of the idol and destroyed it to the ground.

2E então voltei para minha casa e dei ordens para que a porta fosse bem trancada; dizendo aos meus porteiros:

2And so I went back to my house and gave orders that the door should be firmly locked; saying to my doorkeepers:

3"Se alguém perguntar por mim, não me traga nenhum relatório, mas diga-lhe: ele investiga assuntos urgentes. Ele está lá dentro."

3"If somebody shall ask for me, bring no report to me, but tell him: He investigates urgent affairs. He is inside."

4Então Satanás se disfarçou de mendigo e bateu com força na porta, dizendo ao porteiro:

4Then Satan disguised himself as a beggar and knocked heavily at the door, saying to the door-keeper:

5“Apresente-se a Jó e diga que desejo conhecê-lo.”

5"Report to Job and say that I desire to meet him.’’

6E o porteiro entrou e me contou isso, mas soube por mim que eu estava estudando.

6And the door-keeper came in and told me that, but heard from me that I was studying.

7O Maligno, tendo falhado nisso, foi embora e pegou nos ombros um cesto velho e rasgado e entrou e falou ao porteiro dizendo: “Diga a Jó: Dá-me pão das tuas mãos para que eu coma”.

7The Evil One, having failed in this, went away and took upon his shoulder an old, torn basket and went in and spoke to the doorkeeper saying: "Tell Job: Give me bread from thine hands that I may eat."

8E quando ouvi isso, dei-lhe pão queimado para dar a ele, e lhe disse: “Não espere comer do meu pão, porque é proibido para você”.

8And when I heard this, I gave her burnt bread to give it to him, and I made known to him: "Expect not to eat of my bread, for it is forbidden to thee."

9Mas a porteira, envergonhada de lhe entregar o pão queimado e cinza, por não saber que era Satanás, pegou do seu próprio pão fino e deu-lho.

9But the door-keeper, being ashamed to hand him the burnt and ashy bread, as she did not know that it was Satan, took of her own fine bread and gave it to him.

10Mas ele o pegou e, sabendo o que havia acontecido, disse à donzela: “Vai daqui, servo mau, e traz-me o pão que te foi dado em mãos”.

10But he took it and, knowing what occurred, said to the maiden: "Go hence, bad servant, and bring me the bread that was given thee to hand to me."

11E o servo chorou e falou com tristeza: “Tu falas a verdade, dizendo que sou um mau servo, porque não fiz como fui instruído por meu senhor”.

11And the servant cried and spoke in grief: "Thou speakest the truth, saying that I am a bad servant, because I have not done as I was instructed by my master."

12E ele voltou e trouxe-lhe o pão queimado e disse-lhe: “Assim diz meu senhor: Não comerás mais do meu pão, porque te é proibido. E isto ele me deu [dizendo: Isto eu dou] para que não seja feita contra mim a acusação de que não dei ao inimigo que pediu.

12And he turned back and brought him the burnt bread and said to him: "Thus says my lord: Thou shalt not eat of my bread anymore, for it is forbidden to thee. And this he gave me [saying: This I give] in order that the charge may not be brought against me that I did not give to the enemy who asked."

13E quando Satanás ouviu isso, ele enviou o servo de volta para mim, dizendo: "Assim como você vê este pão todo queimado, em breve queimarei seu corpo para torná-lo assim."

13And when Satan heard this, he sent back the servant to me, saying: "As thou seest this bread all burnt, so shall I soon burn thy body to make it like this."

14E eu respondi: "Faça o que você deseja fazer e realize tudo o que você planeja. Pois estou pronto para suportar tudo o que você trouxer sobre mim."

14And I replied: "Do what thou desirest to do and accomplish whatever thou plottest. For I am ready to endure whatever thou bringest upon me."

15E quando o diabo ouviu isso, ele me deixou e, subindo até o céu [mais alto], fez do Senhor o juramento de que teria poder sobre todos os meus bens.

15And when the devil heard this, he left me, and walking up to under the [highest] heaven, he took from the Lord the oath that he might have power over all my possessions.

16E depois de ter tomado o poder ele foi e instantaneamente tirou toda a minha riqueza.

16And after having taken the power he went and instantly took away all my wealth.
