Testamento de Jó 1

1No dia em que adoeceu e (ele) soube que teria que deixar sua morada corporal, reuniu seus sete filhos e suas três filhas e lhes falou o seguinte:

1On the day he became sick and (he) knew that he would have to leave his bodily abode, he called his seven sons and his three daughters together and spake to them as follows:

2“Formem um círculo ao meu redor, filhos, e ouçam, e eu lhes contarei o que o Senhor fez por mim e tudo o que aconteceu comigo.

2"Form a circle around me, children, and hear, and I shall relate to you what the Lord did for me and all that happened to me.

3Pois eu sou Jó, seu pai.

3For I am Job your father.

4Saibam então, meus filhos, que vocês são a geração de um escolhido e tomem cuidado com seu nascimento nobre.

4Know ye then my children, that you are the generation of a chosen one and take heed of your noble birth.

5Pois eu sou dos filhos de Esaú. Meu irmão é Nahor e sua mãe é Dinah. Por ela me tornei seu pai.

5For I am of the sons of Esau. My brother is Nahor, and your mother is Dinah. By her have I become your father.

6Pois minha primeira esposa morreu com meus outros dez filhos em uma morte amarga.

6For my first wife died with my other ten children in bitter death.

7Ouçam agora, filhos, e eu lhes revelarei o que aconteceu comigo.

7Hear now, children, and I will reveal unto you what happened to me.

8Eu era um homem muito rico que morava no Oriente, na terra de Ausitis, (Utz) e antes que o Senhor me chamasse de Jó, eu era chamado de Jobab.

8I was a very rich man living in the East in the land Ausitis, (Utz) and before the Lord had named me Job, I was called Jobab.

9O início do meu julgamento foi assim.

9The beginning of my trial was thus.

10Perto da minha casa havia o ídolo adorado pelo povo; e vi constantemente holocaustos trazidos a ele como um deus.

10Near my house there was the idol of one worshipped by the people; and I saw constantly burnt-offerings brought to him as a god.

11Então ponderei e disse para mim mesmo: “É este quem fez o céu e a terra, o mar e todos nós? Como saberei a verdade?”

11Then I pondered and said to myself: "Is this he who made heaven and earth, the sea and us all? How will I know the truth?"

12E naquela noite, enquanto eu dormia, uma voz veio e me chamou: "Jobab! Jobabe! Levante-se e eu te direi quem é aquele que você deseja conhecer.

12And in that night as I lay asleep, a voice came and called: "Jobab! Jobab! rise up, and I will tell thee who is the one whom thou wishest to know.

13Este, porém, a quem o povo traz holocaustos e libações, não é Deus, mas este é o poder e a obra do Sedutor (Satanás) pelo qual ele engana o povo”.

13This, however, to whom the people bring burnt-offerings and libations, is not God, but this is the power and work of the Seducer (Satan) by which he beguiles the people".

14E quando ouvi isso, caí por terra e me prostrei dizendo:

14And when I heard this, I fell upon the earth and I prostrated myself saying:

15"Ó meu Senhor que fala pela salvação da minha alma. Rogo-te, se este é o ídolo de Satanás, peço-te, deixa-me ir daqui e destruí-lo e purificar este local.

15"O my Lord who speakest for the salvation of my soul. I pray thee, if this is the idol of Satan, I pray thee, let me go hence and destroy it and purify this spot.

16Pois não há ninguém que possa me proibir de fazer isso, pois sou o rei desta terra, para que aqueles que nela vivem não sejam mais desencaminhados”.

16For there is none that can forbid me doing this, as I am the king of this land, so that those that live in it will no longer be led astray’’.

17E a voz que saiu da chama me respondeu: “Tu podes purificar este local.

17And the voice that spoke out of the flame answered to me: "Thou canst purify this spot.

18Mas eis que te anuncio o que o Senhor me ordenou que te dissesse, pois eu sou o arcanjo de Deus”.

18But behold I announce to thee what the Lord ordered me to tell thee, For I am the archangel of God".

19E eu disse: “Tudo o que for dito ao Seu servo, eu ouvirei”.

19And I said: "Whatever shall be told to His servant, I shall hear".

20E o arcanjo me disse: “Assim fala o Senhor: Se você se comprometer a destruir e tirar a imagem de Satanás, ele se colocará com ira para travar guerra contra ti, e mostrará contra ti toda a sua malícia.

20And the archangel said to me: "Thus speaketh the Lord: If thou undertakest to destroy and takest away the image of Satan, he will set himself with wrath to wage war against thee, and he will display against thee all his malice.

21Ele trará sobre você muitas pragas severas e tirará de você tudo o que você tem.

21He will bring upon thee many severe plagues, and take from thee all that thou hast.

22Ele tirará teus filhos e infligirá muitos males sobre ti.

22He will take away thine children, and will inflict many evils upon thee.

23Então você deve lutar como um atleta e resistir à dor, certo de sua recompensa, superar provações e aflições.

23Then thou must wrestle like an athlete and resist pain, sure of thy reward, overcome trials and afflictions.

24Mas quando você perseverar, tornarei o seu nome conhecido por todas as gerações da terra até o fim do mundo.

24But when thou endurest, I shall make thy name renowned throughout all generations of the earth until to the end of the world.

25E eu te restituirei tudo o que você tinha, e a parte dobrada do que você perderá lhe será dada para que você saiba que Deus não considera a pessoa, mas dá a cada um que merece o bem.

25And I shall restore thee to all that thou hadst had, and the double part of what thou shalt lose will be given to thee in order that thou mayest know that God does not consider the person but giveth to each who deserveth the good.

26E também a ti será dado, e vestirás uma coroa de amaranto.

26And also to thee shall it be given, and thou shalt put on a crown of amarant.

27E na ressurreição você despertará para a vida eterna. Então saberás que o Senhor é justo, verdadeiro e poderoso”.

27And at the resurrection thou shalt awaken for eternal life. Then shalt thou know that the Lord is just, and true and mighty".

28Ao que, meus filhos, respondi: “Por amor a Deus, suportarei até a morte tudo o que vier sobre mim e não recuarei”.

28Whereupon, my children, I replied: "I shall from love of God endure until death all that will come upon me, and I shall not shrink back".

29Então o anjo colocou seu selo em mim e me deixou.

29Then the angel put his seal upon me and left me.
