Testamento de Jacó 4

1E quando ele lhe disse isso, o anjo o deixou em paz e voltou para os céus, enquanto Jacó olhava para ele. E os que estavam em casa o ouviram dar graças ao Senhor e glorificá-lo com louvores.

1And when he had said this to him, the angel left him in peace and returned to the heavens, while Jacob gazed after him. And those who were in the house heard him giving thanks to the Lord and glorifying him with praises.

2E todos os seus filhos se reuniram ao redor dele, desde o mais novo até o mais velho, todos em lágrimas e em grande angústia, dizendo: "Ele está prestes a ir embora e nos deixar".

2And all his sons gathered round him, from the youngest to the eldest of them, all in tears and in great distress, saying, "He is about to go away and leave us."

3E eles lhe disseram: “Que faremos, querido pai, visto que somos estrangeiros em terra estrangeira?”

3And they said to him, "What shall we do, beloved father, for we are aliens in a foreign land?"

4E Jacó lhes disse: “Não tenham medo, porque Deus me apareceu na Mesopotâmia dizendo: ‘Eu sou o Deus de seus pais: não tenham medo: estou com vocês para sempre, e com seus descendentes que virão depois de vocês para sempre: a terra em que vocês estão, darei a você e a seus descendentes para sempre.’

4And Jacob said to them, "Do not be afraid, for God appeared to me in Mesopotamia saying: ‘I am the God of your fathers: do not be afraid: I am with you for ever, and with your descendants that shall come after you for ever: the land on which you are standing I will give to you and your descendants for ever.’

5E novamente ele me disse: ‘Não tenha medo de descer ao Egito; Eu irei com você até o Egito; e multiplicarei o teu número, e a tua descendência florescerá para sempre, e José porá as mãos sobre os teus olhos.

5And again he said to me, ‘Do not be afraid to go down into Egypt; I will go with you down to Egypt; and I will increase your numbers, and your descendants shall flourish for ever, and Joseph shall lay his hands upon your eyes.

6E o teu povo aumentará grandemente no Egito; e então eles voltarão para mim aqui, e eu lhes farei bem por sua causa. Mas agora você deve deixar este lugar.’

6And your people shall increase greatly in Egypt; and then they shall return to me here, and I will do them good because of you. But now you must leave this place.’
